Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

ANS:

ADVISOR is a MATLAB/Simulink based simulation program for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of light and heavy-duty vehicles with conventional (gasoline/diesel), hybrid-electric, full-electric, and fuel cell powertrains. New features are developed under the title "Advanced Vehicle Simulator".

It uses backward flow i,e. driving cycle to energy storage system. It has no built in matlab model, but only look up table

1.Open the ADVISOR programme .

2. Click on Start , we chose metric unit system here.

3.As per problem statement , mass is set to 500 Kg and drive cycle is FTP

4.the model is run for 5 cycles

5. It can be cocluded that it covers 88.8 km distance from the fig above

QUESTION 2: Try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

The above model is simulated by increasing the battery capacity and observe the results of the EV model.

FOR 25V BATTERY

FOR 30 V BATTERY

FOR 40V BATTERY

It is been observed that , as battery capacity increse distance covered by vehicle alo increses.

Que 3:Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

The Prius_Jpn_defaults_in file is selected in the vehicle input window. All the parameters of the vehicle is kept as default.

In the simulation parameters window the drive cycle is set as UDDS with one cycle.

The gradeablity test check box is checked

and diiferent speeds, which is to be simulated is put in the box

Gradibility at 45mph is 2.2%

Gradibility at 55mph is 1.7%

gradibilty at 65mph is 1.2%

Gradibility at 75mph is 0.7%

Gradibility (%) Speed
2.2 45
1.7 55
1.2 65
0.7 75
