Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
Ans.
ADVISOR tool - ADvance Vehicle SimulatOR Tool was developed by NREL & Department of energy,USA.
With the use of advisor tool, we can perform rapid analysis of the performance & fuel economy of conventional, elecgtric & hybrid vehicles.
This tool uses a backward flow (driving cycle to energy storage). Vehicle models are mostly experential ,relying on drivetrain component input/output relationships measured in laboratory. Only lookup tables are used in this tool.
For the given condition, we have choosen EV_defaults_in file and set the cargo mass from default 136 kg to 500kg.

In the next step, choosen the drive cycle CYC_FTP ( Federl Test Procedure).
One FTP drive cycle is 17.77km, so, in order to verify vehicle performnace for 45km , we have choosen 3 driving cycles.

Here bellow is the results of the simulation.
Increased the simulation to 3 cycles, (instead the 3*17.77 km), the car travelled 41.4km only, its battery charge become '0' before completing the 3rd cycle
And a warning message is popped "Required distance exceeded EV range"

When the simulation is run for 2 cycles of the FTP driving cycle, the car travelled 35.5km and battery discharged to below 20% of its full charge level.

Conclusion:
The given EV(EV_defaults_in file) With FTP driving cycle with all default parameters and the only cargo mass increased to 500 Kg from default 136 kg, the vehicle cannot travel 45 km due to the Energy storage system(battery) limitations.
For better life of the EV battery, we can't run the vehicle below 20% SOC.
Under certain limitations, we can increase the battery capacity to make the vehicle run for required range
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
Soln.
Changing the number of modules to 35 from 25, making nominal voltage 432V

Now simulating the vehicle with FTP driving cycle for 2.5 cycles,

From the results, we can observe that the EV travveld 46.8km witout falling the SOC below 20%

So increasing the ESS/battery capacity, we can increase the range of the vehicle.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
Ans:
First open the advisor tool, from the ADVISOR tool choosde vehicle input file PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in and press continue.
in the second window, check the option constant road grade and Gradeability test.
Now click on Grade options, then choose All systems Enable and now each time keeping the duration 20sec , vary the speed and run the simulation.

Following are the simulation results for gradeability test.

| Speed in kmph | Duration | Gradebility |
| 10 | 20Sec | 35.6% |
| 20 | 20Sec | 30.5% |
| 30 | 20Sec | 24.1% |
| 40 | 20Sec | 19.8% |
| 80 | 20Sec | 12.4% |
| 120 | 20Sec | 7.3% |
| 150 | 20Sec | 3.8% |
From the above table ,it is observed that, for a constant road grade, with the increase in vehicle speed, its gradeability decreasing.
This gradeability also varies with varying time duration, road crade and vehicle engine mode weather purely Electric of ICE or hybrid mode of operating.
