Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1.
Objective:
To change the cargo mass to 500 kg with all other default conditions in the vehicle input of EV_defaults_in file.
To check the vehicle could run for 45 km with FTP drive cycle in the simulation parameters
To observe the simulation results
Vehicle Input:
The value of cargo mass is changed to 500 kg in the vehicle input parameter.

Simulation Parameters:
The Drive cycle "CYC_FTP" is selected. The distance of one Drive cycle is 11.04 miles.
To check the model to run for 45 km (27.96) miles.
Number of Drive cycle to be used = 27.96/11.04 = 2.53 ~=3 cycles

Output:

In EV_defaults_in file with the cargo load of 500 kg and CYC_FTP Duty cycle could not be completed for 3 cycles. The warning message shows that the distance exceeded the EV range.
Given distance is 45 km (27.96 miles) but the EV can run only up to 41.36 km (25.7 miles).
2. To change the Battery capacity in th vehicle input parameter and to observe the results.
Vehicle Input:
In the Engine storage parameter the number of fuel cell is increased from 25 to 30. so that the nominal voltage increase from 308 V to 370 V and the corresponding mass increases from 275 kg to 330 kg

Simulation Parameters:
The Drive cycle "CYC_FTP" is selected. The distance of one Drive cycle is 11.04 miles so 3 cycles are included in the parameter.

Output:

From the above output, the distance travelled by the vehicle is 30.5 miles (49.09 km) by changing the number of fuel cells to 30.
The warning message is displayed because the given number of fuel cells could not complete 3 cycles (33.1 miles).
3. To perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file using the ADVISOR tool.
Vehicle Input:

The PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file is selected from the Load File parameter and proceeded using continue option at the bottom.
Simulation Parameters:

In the next display, Gradeability Test checkbox need to enabled which provides the gradeability output from the vehicle parameters and the Drive cycle data. The run option at the bottom is used to run the simulation using the given data.
Output:
At constant Duration of 10 seconds:
35 mph Gradeability 2.4%

45 mph Gradeability 2.2%

55 mph Gradeability 1.5%

65 mph Gradeability 1.2%

75 mph Gradeability 0.7%

At constant speed of 55 mph:
Duration 4 seconds and Gradeability 0.1%

Duration 7 seconds and Gradeability 0.4%

Duration 10 seconds and Gradeability 1.7%

Duration 13 seconds and Gradeability 1.7%

Duration 16 seconds and Gradeability 1.7%

Observation:
At constant duration 10 seconds (default):
| speed (mph) | Gradeability (%) |
| 35 | 2.4 |
| 45 | 2.2 |
| 55 | 1.5 |
| 65 | 1.2 |
| 75 | 0.7 |
The increase and decrease in the speed value results in increase and decrease in the gradeability.
At constant 55 mph (default):
| Duration (seconds) | Gradeability (%) |
| 04 | 0.1 |
| 07 | 0.4 |
| 10 | 1.7 |
| 13 | 1.7 |
| 16 | 1.7 |
The decrease in Duration results in reduction in Gradeability
Increase in Duration from default value results in constant Gradeability.
