ADVISOR Tool
Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following
- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
OBJECTIVE-1
To test the EV_defaults_in file, with the cargo mass is 500 kg can travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?
The EV default car with the above condition can only travel up to the range of 41.3 km
In order to increase the range of vehicles, from my research I concluded three solutions .
SOLUTION-1: Decrease the vehicle weight
In such case the energy required to move the car is less ,so large range can be covered
SOLUTION-2: Increase the battery capacity
In such case with the larger energy capacity of battery gives the better range
SOLUTION-3: Increase the energy density
In such case you can change the battery with higher energy density
Like :pb < Ni-Cd < Ni-MH < Li ion < Li metal
RESULT:
The EV-default car fail to achieve the distance of 45 km with this condition

OBJECTIVE-2
In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
By changing the lead acid battery (pb) from 25 KW to 30 KW the EV default car can reach 45 km and goes the maximum range of approximately 50 km.
From this ,we shall understand that increasing the battery capacity increases the range of the vehicle.
RESULT:
Yes ,the EV_defaults car reaches the distance of 45 km by changing the battery capacity

OBJECTIVE-3
To Perform the gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file and Compare your results in table and conclude.
The gradeability test for PRIUS
Gradeability = (Te/GW)*100
Te= tractive effort of car
GW=gross weight of car
From the formula we can understand that ,change in tractive force(speed) can change the gradeability
From my analysis with various speeds of the same vehicle I conclude that an increase in the speed of the vehicle decreases the gradeability.
RESULT:
The PRIUS car travels the same grade with the different speed which gives the result of different gradeability
