Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
Solution:
- Firstly extracted the Downloaded file into MATLAB directory and then add to path.
- Type 'advisor' in command window as shown below:

- After that, Advisor window will open, change the units to Metric and click on start.
- Choose the EV_defaults_in file and change the cargo mass to 500 as shown below:

- Continue and change the drive cycle to FTP as shown below:

- Run and Check Vehicle distance:

- Here distance is 17.8 Km which is less than 45 km.
- So with above conditions, Vehicle can't travel 45 km distance for FTP drive cycle.
Observations:
- After changing the number of modules and no of drive cycles vehicle travel more distance than 45 km.

- Here no of modules changed from 25 to 28.

- Here number of drive cycles changed from 1 to 5

- Distance Covered by vehicle is 46.1 km
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
Solution:
- changed the battery capacity(ESS_PB85) as shown below:

- Distance covered by vehicle is same (17.8 km)
- Speed variation are less compared to previous.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
Solution:
- Select the PRIUS_Jpn_defaults file as shown below:

- Run and check the gradeability test and click on Grade options; Blue box will open where we can change Speed and Duration as shown below:
- Speed=55mph and Duration=10 secs

- Gradeability results:
- Gradeability at 88.5 km/h is 1.7%.
Similarly by changing the Speed and Duration values, Gradeability changes as shown in below table:

Conclusion:
- As, Slope or Grade= Speed/Duration; More slope fails the gradeability i.e. if speed is more compared to Duration.
- As speed decreases w.r.t time, Gradeability increases.
