Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
ADVISOR is a Advanced Vehicle Simulator created by National Research Energy Laboratories(NREL), USA, department of energy.
- used for rapid analysis of performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric and hybrid vehicles.
- It is backward faced model where energy flow is from Driving cycle to energy storage(battery).
- vehicle model are mostly experimental relying on drive train. component input/output relationships are measured in laboratory which are accessed through Look up tables, there are not mathematical models.
1.After opening th eADVISOR tool change the load to EV_defaults_in file and change the cargo mass

click continue

change the drive cycle to cyc_FTP anf number of drive cycles to 3 the click run

we can see that the distance travelled us 25.7 miles= 40.223km less than 45 km, so that vehicle cannot travel 45km with the cargo mass of 500kg. As cargo mass increases the distance covered by vehicle for a certain drive cycle deacreases as the vehicle with more mass takes more time to accelarate the heavy vehicle cannot move the same distance as lighter vehicle for certain accelaration period, so in a specified time interval heavier vehicle travels less than distance than a lighter vehicle.
for default value of cargo mass= 136 kg the distance travelled is 30 miles= 48km.

2. now by keeping the same cargo mass, increase the battery capacity by increasing the number of modules of battery to 35 so that he vehcile can get that extra power to accelarate faster and cover more distance.

It is observed that the distance covered is 33miles= 53km greater than 45km.

4.
| Speed in mph | Gradability in % |
| 60 | 8.1 |
| 50 | 9.7 |
| 40 | 11.7 |
| 30 | 14.7 |
As the speed of vehicle decreases the gradability increases linearly till certain speed and then gradability remains constant at certain lower speeds.
