Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations:
Once ADVISOR files are downloaded and copied in the MATLAB directory, we can run ADVISOR by browsing and clicking on "advisor.m" or simply typing "advisor" in command window.
Then we select the required load file from drop down menu, and change the payload to 500. Keeping the other default values same as they are, click continue.

In the next window we select the required drive cycle: "CYC_FTP" and click RUN.
Now the question we have is can the vehicle travel 45KM following this drive cycle,
using this drive cycle with only 1 cycle we find the distance covered is less than 45KM, but the SOC of battery is still not zero, thus we try to run the simulation with multiple cycles of the same drive cycle.
With 3 drive cycles it is found that the vehicle covered is still less than 45Km meanwhile the SOC of the battery reaches zero without completion of all cycles.

There is also warning shown that"required distance exceeds EV range".

Hence, we find that with this battery pack the vehicle has a range of only 25.7 miles.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation:
On the first window now we select a different battery "ESS_PB_91"

Now, similar to earlier case we simulate same drive cycle for 3 cycle and find out that this time range of the vehicle is 33.1 miles.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file, Compare your results in table and conclude:
First we select the required file then in the next window check the "Gradibility Test" Box, in 'Grade options' Grade is kept at 6% and speed at 55 mph for the first simulation, the duration of 10 seconds is given to vehicle to reach the speed.

This simulation shows that vehicle passes the gradibilty test.

In the next test gradiblity is increased to 8% which is success, but when gradibility was assigned 10% the vehicle was unable to reach the required speed.

Then we increase the time duration to 20 seconds for the vehicle to reach that speed;
and the simulation shows that it reaches 55mph on 10% grade when given 20 seconds,
Similarly we test the vehicle by keeping on increasing the gradebility, the results a=have been compiled in a table below:

Thus we simulated the Prius hybrid for various gradibility conditions and compiled the results in a table and also found out that by increasing time duration, vehicle maybe able to reach a higher speed.
