Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
AIM :
- For EV defaults in file simulate for the range of vehicle carrying the Payload of 500kg
- Changing the better capacity of the above Vehicle for the next simulation
- To perfom the Gradeability test for PRIUS_Jpn defaults_in Vehicle.
Introduction of ADVISOR:
ADVISOR : ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR
This too, originally developed by the National Renewable Energy laboratory (NREL), allow users to simulate and analyze conventional, advanced , light and heavy vehicles including hybrid and fuly electric and fuel cell vehicles.
ADVISOR approximate the continious behavior of a vehicle as a series of discreate steps during each of which the components are assumed to be STEADY STATE. This allows us to plot the graphs as per our requriments.
1.EV_defaults_in:
- To check if the vehicle can travel for 45km with the cargo mass of 500 kg with all other defaults conditions with FTP drive cycle.

Motor characteristics:

Vehicle Configuration:

Drive cycle :

- FTP drive cycle consists of a total distance of 7.45 miles (i.e 11.989 km) in a single cycle. in order to check for the range for 45km. the Vehicle must run atleast 3 drive cycles.
Plots after 3 Drive cycles:
- The 1st plot shows the driver cycle speed aganist time.
- The 2nd plot shows that battery SOC has declined to 0 at time ca.5500s even before.
- Emission is absolute zero because it is an elecric vehicle. The 3rd plot shows this
- The 4th plot shows the distance traveeled by the Vehicle by carrying the 500 kg cargo

- THE VEHICLE FAILED TO TRAVEL THE DISTANCE OF 45 KM UNDER FTP CYCLE WITH AN PAYLOAD OF 500KG
2. To change the Battery Capacity for EV_defaults_in in the above simulation and check for the Range
- The number of battery modules is increased from default 25 to 30 check for the range.
- Increase in the Number of battery modules will increse the nominal voltage from 308 volts to 370 volts.
- This also resulted in the increse the overall weight of the vehicle.

Plots:

- The 1st plot shows that drive cycle Sped vs time
- From the 2nd plot the the battery SOC has declined to 5800 or less.
- the total distace travelled is 47.9 km

WITH INCREASE IN THE BATTERY MODULE BY 5 NUMBER THE VEHIICLE MANAGED TO TRAVEL 45 KM WITH A PAYLOD OF 500KG
3.PIRUS_Jpn_defaults_in
To perform the gradeablity test for pirus_jpn_defaults_in vehicle.

Drive cycle:
Gradeablity test can be performed by two methods
- Gradeablity at some defined speed, grade test option available test
- Greadeablity with constatnt grade ubder any of the drive cycle
Case 1
speed at 10 mph for 50 seconds

The Gradeablitiy is 34% with speed of 16.1 kmph for 50 seconds
CASE 2:
speed @ 20mph for 50 seconds

The Gradeablitiy is 23.5% with speed of 32.2 kmph for 50 seconds
CASE :
speed @ 30mph for 50 seconds

The Gradeablitiy is 18% with speed of 48.3 kmph for 50 seconds
CASE 4:
speed @ 40mph for 50 seconds

The Gradeablitiy is 15.8% with speed of 64.4 kmph for 50 seconds
CASE 5:
speed @ 50mph for 50 seconds

The Gradeablitiy is 13.6% with speed of 80.5 kmph for 50 seconds
CASE 6:
If the gradeablity is greater than 14% ie (G>14%) the grade test fails when gradeabiity is more than the max gradeablity at respective speed.

Conclusion :
| SPEED(KMPH) | GRADEABLITY IN % (FOR 50 SECONDS) |
| 16.1 | 34.4% |
| 32.2 | 23.5 |
| 48.3 | 18.8 |
| 64.4 | 15.8 |
| 80.5` | 13.6 |
- THE GRADEABILITY DECREASES WITH INCRESE IN THE SPEED
- AT CERTAIN GRADE THE VEHICLE DECREASES UPTO A POINT AND THAN REACHES THE STEADY STATE AS THE PLOT
