Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
AIM - To analyze the EV range,battery capacity and gradeability with the help of ADVISOR TOOL.
OBJECTIVE -
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file.
THEORY -
ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR(ADVISOR) tool, developed in November 1994 by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), allows users to simulate and analyze conventional, advanced, light, and heavy vehicles, including hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles. The tool allows users to assess the effect of changes in vehicle components (such as motors, batteries, catalytic converters, climate control systems, and alternative fuels) and other modifications that might affect fuel economy, performance, or emissions.
It is a set of models, data, and script text files for use with MATLAB and Simulink.
CASE 1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
EV_defaults_in - The mass of the vehicle considered is 500kg.
FTP CYCLE - The distance completed by the FTP cycle is 17.77km in one cycle of FTP, so the no of cycle is increased to 3 to cover the distance more than 45kms.
OUTPUT-
1.The plot 1 shows the 3 no of cycle of FTP.
2.The plot 2 shows the battery SOC comes to 0 at 5900sec and no power is remaining in the battery to drive the vehicle after covering the distance of 43.9kms.
3.The plot 3 indicates the emissions which is zero for an EV.
4.Plot 4 shows the overall ratio.
CASE 2 - BY CHANGING THE BATTERY CAPACITY AND REPEAT THE SIMULATION.
In this case the battery module is increased from 25 to 35 module.
OUTPUT -
With the increase in the battery module to 35, the distance travelled is 53.2km which is more than the previous case and the battery SOC comes to 0 after 7500sec.
CASE 3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file.
CASE 1 - At Speed 40 mph for 10sec
CASE 2 - At Speed 50mph for 10sec
CASE 3 - At Speed 60mph for 10sec
CASE 4 - At Speed 70mph for 10sec

From the above table it can be seen that as the speed increases the gradeability % decreases.
