Week 3 Challenge

Solution.1)

Aim: To determine the effective length factor for the given cases.

  • Height of column is 10 m and it is effectively restrained in mid height in one direction (in Z direction) but free to move in other direction (Y direction). Bottom of column is Fixed and top of column is Free.

Procedure:

Result: Effective length factor for the following cases has been found.

a) `K_x`=0.8 and `K_y`=2.0

b) K = 0.8

c) K = 2.0

d) K = 1.2

Solution.2)

Aim: To determine the Design Axial Compressive Strength of Coulmn with given conditions

Procedure:

Result: Design Compressive Strength of Column has been found, and is equal to 514.73 kN.

Solution.3)

Aim: To design a circular strut member for the given load conditions.

Procedure:

Result: A circular hollow section has been designed for the given load, with outer diameter of 100mm and inner diamerter of 60mm.

Solution.4)

Aim: To design a single laced column for the given load conditions.

Procedure:

Result: Hence, we will provide a lacing plate of 10mm thickness and width of 60 mm, with horizontal spacing of 136 mm and vertical spacing of 192.3 mm and length of lacing is 192.3 mm.

Solution.5)

Aim: To design a battened column for the given load conditions.

Procedure:

Result: A battern column has been designed for the given load conditions.
