Imported model

Figure. 1 shows the imported hood model in ANSA with all four components namely, Inner Extract, Outer Extract, Hinge and Latch.

Geometry Clean-up

Figure. 2 shows the Geometry Clean-up of the model using Checks > Geometry, the components are tested for geometry clean-up. Errors are corrected using auto fix, and topo tools such new face, delete, and topo are used to correct any remaining issues.

Mid – Surface Extraction

Via choosing the faces of each component by the offset option and entering the distance as half of the thickness, manual mid surfaces are extracted as shown in Figure. 3 - 7. All the Mid – Surfaces are again checked for errors.

Property and Thickness

New PIDs and their thicknesses are allocated to the mid surfaces of the hood's component parts as shown in Figure. 8.

Mesh

The Quality Criteria and Mesh Parameters are entered in accordance with the instructions shown in Figure. 9 & 10.

Figure. 10 Mesh Parameters

Cons and Hot points are modified to match the criteria, and then Perimeter and macros are set for 5 mm using the mesh tab's perimeter option's length setting. The best mesh generation option is used to mesh each component's face, while the reconstruct mesh option in shell mesh is used to boost mesh quality. Failed elements are removed using Split, Swap, Join, Smooth and Num +/- options. Final meshed model parts are shown in Figure. 11 - 15.
