Week 2 - Flow over a Cylinder.

  1. aim: Simulate the flow with the steady and unsteady case and calculate the Strouhal Number for Re= 100.
Calculate the coefficient of drag and lift over a cylinder by setting the Reynolds number to 10,100,1000,10000 & 100000. (steady solver)

Discuss the effect of Reynolds number on the coefficient of drag
    1. add fluent module > double click on geomentry> in spaceclaim draw a circle of dia 2m and wind tunnel of respective size
  2. open mesh deck fix the mesh properties as shown below element size 0.25m and add inflation layer and select the edge of circle give 10 layer increment of 1.2,add all triangles method, add edge sizing value as 36 divisions
  3. click on generate mesh
  4. open set up,check mesh>in physics tab change viscous model to laminar, pressure based solver, duplicte air in meterial and then change its value as given in the image
  5. result>create>point>add moniter point @ 10xdia
  6. add reports for moniter point velocity, animation in activities tab
  7. hybrid initialisation> start calculation
  8. found values are given in table below
    1. result : as per data obtained the solution has convergered, as we could observe the constant aplitude in the monitor point velocity

    2. result: drag is inversly propotional to the Reynolds number it was verified with the drag plot and the date source is from Correlation of the Drag Coefficient vs. Reynolds Number | System Analysis Blog | Cadence
    3. result : the animation of transient flow are given below
    4. steadyresult : the animation of steady flow are given below
