Week 2 Challenge

Aim: To apply the IRC live loads and model in Staad pro and perform the structural analysis.

Given data:

Width of the bridge= 7m

Span of bridge=24m

Pier diameter= 2m

Wind load= 42km/hr

Unit weight of soil= 18kN/m3

Location of bridge in seismic zone III

Theory:

Live load: The live load on the bridge, is moving load on the bridge throughout its length. The moving loads are vehicles, Pedestrians etc. but it is difficult to select one vehicle or a group of vehicles to design a safe bridge. So, IRC recommended some imaginary vehicles as live loads which will give safe results against the any type of vehicle moving on the bridge.

Type of loading

  1. IRC class AA loading
  2. IRC class A loading
  3. IRC class 70R loading
  4. Footway loading

Width of carriageway is 7m(5.3m<7m<9.6m) it is design for two lane and live loading are apply will be two class A loading or one class 70R(w) loading.

Calculation:

No. of load generation= (span length + Total distance of vehicle)/Length of per increment.

No. of load generation = (24+19)/1=43

Draw two node with distance of 12m

Draw a circular pier with dia. 0f 2m

Draw all cross-sectional pier

Draw all longitudinal pier and crass girder

Draw all longitudinal T girder with dimension of height 1.9m thinness 0.5m

Draw in foundation plate mat

Insert fixed support in plate mat

Draw plate with thickness of 200mm for deck slab

Apply live load in Y direction increment in X direction with 43 load generation.
