Week 6 Challenge

Aim: Calculate the pipe loads for the bridges and apply the pipe load in Staad.pro.

Given data:

Location: Narmada River

Width of bridge: 3m

Diameter of pipe 1: 700mm

Diameter of pipe 2: 200mm

Length of bridge: 24m

Pipe type: Class k9 DI pipe

Unit weight of class 700 k9 DI pipe: 2.17KN/m

Unit weight of class 200 k9 DI pipe: 0.452KN/m

Theory:

The total design weight load of pipe supports includes the weight of the pipe, fittings, insulation, fluid in pipe, piping components such as valves, valve operators, flanges, and so on, and the supports themselves.

Dead load: A constant load in a structure (such as a bridge, pipe, building) that is due to the weight of the member, the supported structure, and permanent attachments.

Live load: The live load on the bridge, is moving load on the bridge throughout its length.

Calculation:

Self weight of 700mm pipe for 24m span = 2.172*24

= 52.128kN

Self weight of 200mm pipe for 24m span = 0.452*24

= 10.848kN

Live load of water 700mm pipe = *0.35*0.35*10

= 3.848kN/m

Live load of water 200mm pipe = *0.1*0.1*10

= 0.3148kN/m

Unit weight of 700mm pipe = 2.172+3.848

= 6.02kN/m

Unit weight of 200mm pipe = 0.452+0.3148

= 0.766kN/m
