Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge

#2 Week Ansys Workbench

Grid Dependency: In terms of FEA Grid Dependency can be defined as refining of mesh until reaching the optimal results in the simulation. Atlast you will obtain a component with perfect mesh

Case-1: Grid Dependency Test on Bevel Gear with Mesh Size of 6mm.

  • Import the given Bevel Gear component to the Ansys workbench.
  • Edit the spaceclaim geometry and select the inner surface of the gear and create a circle and pullout the unwanted surface.
  • Do it also for the small gear.
  • Then update the geometry and model.
  • Then edit the geometry and you can see the below image in the graphical area.

  • Select the surfaces of the gear in the geometry both the contact and target body faces.

  • Create the Joints and select the required parameters.

Goto the Analysis Settings and set all the parameters.

No. of time steps =6

Large Deflection = ON

Initial Time Step=0.2s

Minimum Time Step=0.1s

Maximum Time Step=1s

Insert the requirements in the analysis settings:

Von-Mises Stress:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Deformation:

CASE-2: Grid Dependency Test on Bevel Gear with Mesh Size of 5 mm.

Von-Mises Stress:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Deformation:

CASE-3: Grid Dependency Test on Bevel Gear with Mesh Size of 4 mm.

  • Change the mesh size to 4mm and perform the simulation

Von-Mises Stress:

Equivalent Elastic Strain:

Deformation:
