Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge
Grid dependency test is an iterative process where simulations are initially done with coarser mesh and proceeded with finer mesh. Idea of this process is to find out optimum mesh size for a particular simulation after which results do not change significantly.
Aim- To perform Bevel gear simulation with mesh sizes 6, 5 and 4 mm and extract conclusion with the results.
Procedure-
1 Important thing to note here is in this frictional connection are given with 0.1 frictional coefficient.
2. Revolute joints are given for both the gears and direction of rotaion for both should be in opposite direction.
3. In analysis settings we proceed with 6 steps with initial time step as 0.05, min time step as 0.001 and max time step as 0.1.
4. then we give joint load to one gear and moment to other and simulate for results.
Conclusion-
Three different simulations were performed for element sizes 6, 5 and 4mm.
Maximum stress induced in all three solutions are as follows:
6mm : 2.2655 MPa
5mm: 1.7683 MPa
4mm: 2.1317 MPa.
From this we conclude max stress values converging around 2.1 MPa. Hence it is clear if we keep on decreasing element size we will get better results.
