Week 2 : Basic Calibration of Single cylinder SI-Engine

Question No:- 01

  • Air flow rate- It is the amount of air passing through the device per unit time :- 24.645 kg/hr.
  • BMEP - the average (mean) pressure which, imposed on the pistons uniformly from the top to the bottom of each power stroke, would produce the measured (brake) power output:- 9.4768 bar.
  • BSFC - BSFC is a measure of the fuel efficiency of any engine that burns fuel and produces rotational power output.:- 239.167 g/KWh.
  • In-cylinder pressure -In-Cylinder Pressure is the pressure in the engine cylinder during the 4 strokes of engine operation

Minimum Pressure In-cylinder-0.9890bar.

Maximum Pressure In-cylinder-48.8685 bar

Question No:- 02

Answer:-

Now in this formula, the power is depends on the following factors:-

  • Density of air.
  • Fuel to air ratio(fixed in the GT)
  • Displaced Volume =`(pi/4)*D^2*l_("slant length")`-Diameter will influence the power more due to the higher power i.e. 2
  • RPM (fixed given in Question)
  • Heating value of fuel-The heat value of a fuel is the amount of heat released during its combustion. Also referred to as energy or calorific value, heat value is a measure of a fuel's energy density, and is expressed in energy (joules) per specified amount (e.g. kilograms).
  • fuel conversion efficiency:- The thermal efficiency is sometimes called the fuel conversion efficiency, defined as the ratio of the work produced per cycle to the amount of fuel energy supplied per cycle that can be released in the combustion process.
  • Volumetric Efficiency:-ratio between the volume of air drawn into the cylinder and the geometric volume of the cylinder.

now the intial conditions at 3600rpm are shown in case 2 & the increase in the Power we get by varying the parameter Bore diameter as shown in case 3 with same RPM.

  • Power Result:-

In Case-2 we get the value of power is 22.5kW

10% of 22.5= 2.25

22.5+2.25=24.75 ~ 24.8 kW
