Week -2
Question1: Doorbell using solenoid
Solution: Aim to show the movement plunger when the switch is closed for 2 secs and then released.
Using BLocks are followed by:
Battery block is used for giving power to the switch.
The switch is controlled by a signal builder/ pulse generator.
Signal Builder is used to closing the switch as per the given condition i.e, closed for 2secs and then released. The signal is given as shown in the below image.

The switch will close for 4th to 6th secs and then be released.
A solenoid is powered by a battery through a switch. solenoid's plunger going to move at the 4th sec when the switch is closed by the signal generator. R port moves away from c. Plunger goes back at 6th sec.
The motion sensor senses the motion of the plunger. c port of sensor connected to the c port of the solenoid and r port of sensor connected to the r port of the solenoid. output velocity v is terminated by ps terminator. Output position port p is connected to the scope block to show the movement of the plunger through Ps-Simulink Converter.
Simulink- Ps converter is used to connect between Signal builder to Switch.
Electrical reference is connected to the electrical circuit.
Mechanical translation Reference is connected to the mechanical parts of the solenoid.
Solver configuration connected in the model.
At the 4th sec, the switch is closed by the signal builder and the solenoid gets powered. the plunger of the solenoid moved away from port c which is sensed by the motion sensor. The scope shows the graph of the plunger movement Due to the spring and damper of the solenoid, the waveform is damping for a few secs.
At 6th secs, the switch is released by the signal builder signal and the plunger of the solenoid comes to the original position which is sensed by the sensor and the scope shows the waveform of the plunger position, shown in below attaches file named as bellscope.png.
The simulink model of the doorbell is attached as a bell.slx file.
