Challenge

Week 12- Final project

OBJECTIVE:

  • Create thickened part using master section for reference
  • Create the mounting features as per design guidelines in the industry and with master sections
  • Draft analysis & Tooling analysis

CLASS A  SURFACE:

The above image represents the class A surface given as input.

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOLLOWED FOR CREATING PARTS:

GENERATING TOOLING AXIS:

1. The flat face from the given class A surface is identified and extracted.

2. A point is plated using point option and on surface method.

3. a line is created by using line command normal to surface plane. Thus TOOLING AXIS is created.

CLASS B:

1. The given surface is offseted for the given thickess of 2.5mm.

2. few open patches are found in the class B surface.

3. These patches are closed by creating a boundary and expolated tagential or curvature to the surface for the suitable surfaces.

4. Then they are trimmed.

5. Fillet values are measured and applied. CLASS B surface is created.

CLASS C

1.The class C surfaces are created part by part up to required distance.

2. The edges are selected and boundary is created.

3. The outer edges are swept using boundary reference surface.

4. The cut out portions are created using tooling axis method using tooling axis.

FINAL SURFACE:

1. The class A and class C surfaces are joined together.

2. The joined surface is trimmed with class B surface and Final surface is created.

1. DOOR ARM REST:

The given arm rest input data is stuided for feasiblity using boundary option.

The mentioned area has issue and conveyed to styling team for clearance.

From the above draft analysis, noticed that there is need for improvement of class A surafce. Reported to Stlyling team for class A modification.

The complete part is created along with the B side features and draft analysis is attached below.

From the above data the feature created is good and after the class A surface is modified by styling team it will be completely ready for manufacturing.

2. MAP POCKET:

The map pocket is checked for class A surface quality and it looks good.

The part is created by following the general procedure.

The draft analysis if not good for clearing the tooling so, the class A data is reported to styling team for updations.

The completed part with features.

3. BOTTLE HOLDER:

The given class A surface is checked for quality using boundary command and changes are conveyed to styling team for updations.

The styling surface is checked for draft quality and it is not clearing so reported to styling team for updations.

The class B and class C are created using the general procedure.

The attachment features are created for other parts necessity and assembly.

From above draft analysis we noticed that bottle holder part is not as per requirement. It is not manufacturable because at some area it have negative draft for that we have to informed styling team.

4. LOWER SUBSTRATE:

The class A of lower substrate is checked for quality and draft analysis is done for the class A.

The is some few changes need to be done in class A and the quality update is conveyed to Styling Team.

The part is created by folloowing the general procedure for class B and class C.

DESIGN RULES TO BE FOLLOWED FOR RIB CREATION:

DESIGN RULES TO BE FOLLOWED FOR SCREW BOSS CREATION

  • Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall ( C ) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock ( T ).

The above mentioned dimensions are followed for screw boss and dog house creation.

Draft analysis for lower substrate:

FULL ASSEMBLY:

CONCLUSION:

From this project the learings are listed

creation of CAD model for plastic parts by considering design rule.

By using CATIA V5 and working in part, surface and assembly workbench.

By using this I've got ideas of how to design a part by considering manufacturing and assembly aspect.
