Week 12- Final project

AIM:- Development of a Door Trim panel

OBJECTIVE:-

Creation of CAD model considering following inputs as like in OEM and tier1 companies

  1. a) Class A surface
  2. b) Nominal thickness referring master sections
  3. c) Attachment strategy

PROCEDURES:-

The given Class A surface and master section is carefully observed, the provided surfaces can be divided into four sub parts:-

  1. Lower substrate
  2. Arm rest
  3. Map pocket
  4. Side trim substrate

All the surfaces need to be created individually and then with the help of the engineering features it will be attached in the vehicle and its assembly can be seen in the assembly design workbench.

For the creation of any part from class A to closed solid following are the steps to follow:-

  1. Checking and examining class a surface for any surface defects
  2. If any defects is observed the surface is fixed and improved.
  3. Draft analysis of the class a surface
  4. Creation of class b surface
  5. Creation of class c surface
  6. Merging class a, b & c surfaces together
  7. Closed solid creation of the final surface
  8. Draft analysis of the final solid surface

In this project we need to create engineering features like heat stakes, locaters and dog house as the attachment of the trims with each other and the vehicle.

Checking of class a surface

Only in arm rest surface some adjustments needed were observed, it is improved and the the surface is taken for the nest process.

Draft analysis of class a surface

Draft is essential for the entire surface as it will ensure the smooth and easy production, the minimum of 3 degree draft is required and we need to tool the axis accordingly to ensure the fulfillment of the requirement. Once the tooling is created and drafting is done the process od creating class b surface is proceed.

Class b creation

The class a surface is offset to the thickness of the final solid inward direction to create a surface known as class b. This surface holds all the engineering and attachment features. It also provides the thickness to the final solid product.

Class c creation

From the boundary of class a to the boundary of class b a perpendicular surface is created to intersect both the surfaces, this intersecting surface is known as class c surface.

Closed solid creation of the final surface

After creating the closed surface it is converted in a partbody with the help of closed solid and thus the closed surface solid is made.

Draft analysis of the closed solid part

CONCLUSION:- Door trim panels are successfully created with the provided objectives.
