Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

INTRODUCTION

Report on draft analysis and tooling axis creation of a base bracket.

PROCESS

For draft analysis of any given product following stepes should be taken to successfully complete the analysis of the given task.

Creation of tooling axis

Tooling axis plays the main role in drafting process and it also helps us understand in which direction the tooling is most efficient and economical.

For creating a tooling axis following steps are followed

  • For the give class A surface I have taken the hole as the guide for the tooling axis.
  • A point is created at the centre of the hole.
  • Then a dummy tooling axis is created vertical in the z plane.
  • Then a plane a plane is created in the yz direction.
  • Then using the line command a intersect is created perpendicular to z direction.
  • Hiding the class a surface only the intersect is kept and inspected for the surface that may hinder the tooling of the product.
  • On my observation I concluded few surfaces and draw extension of the surfaces in the vertical direction of the surface.
  • Then in the centre of the intersect a line is drawn known as the tooling axis.

Drafting and Draft analysis

Drafting is required to allow parts to release or eject from the mold properly and with minimum damage to the core and the product.

Drafting analysis is a process which helps us to test and see if the product and its surfaces are ready for tooling and what is the minimum draft required to obtain the efficient tooling.

Steps to follow while draft analysis

  • Featured draft analysis is the feature which helps us to understand the surfaces are draft ready or not.
  • One the command is opened there are four main context which consist of
  • Element is the surface which we need to check the draft degree.
  • Compass is the direction defining tool which is fixed on the tooling axis for understanding the draft degree.
  • Display is the another tool where we can see the color scale , point analyses, highlights and light effect.
  • Once the color codes are correct on the surface and on the color scale the draft is feasible and tooling can be done.

Conclusion

Drafting of the class a surface is done, the tooling of the class a surface is done and draft analysis is and done.
