Week 10 - Challenge 3 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

REPORT:

Aim:

  • Create the Door Trim.
  • Create the Locators and the Heat Stakes for the Door Trim.

Software Used:CATIA V5.

Commands Used:

  • Point,Line,Offset,Multiple Extract,Extrapolate,Trim,Edge Fillet,Boundary,Sweep,Spline,Multi-Selection Surface,Join,Intersection,Split,Sketch,Circle,Draft,Draft Analysis,Union Trim.

Procedure:

Class-A Surface:

  • This is the given class-A surface of a Door Trim.

Tooling Axis:

  • To Create the tooling axis,a point is plotted on the class-A surface.Using the Point-Direction method a line is created in the y-direction,This line is called Tooling Axis.

Draft Analysis:

  • Draft Analysis is performed on the class-A surface with draft angle 3°.

Class-B Surface:

  • To Create class-B surface, directly offset the class-A surface upto distance of 2.5mm.

  • Due to direct offset of the class-A surface, some patches are missing on the offset surface.

  • To create the missing patches, using multiple extract command extract the surface in contact with missing patchesand then extrapolate. Now trim the unwanted surface to form sharp edges.
  • Using edge fillet provide the fillet for sharp edges to form class-B surface.

Class-C Surface:

  • Class-C surface is created using boundary, sweep, extrapolate operations on the class-A surface.
  • Then trim the unwanted surfaces to create class-C surface.

Join Class-A & Class-C Surface:

Final Plastic Component:

  • Unhide the Class-A&C join surface and the class-B surface.

  • Using intersection command, create an intersection between the class-A&C join surface and the class-B surface.

  • Now split both the class-A&C and class-B surface separately with intersection.

  • Join the split surface of class-A&C and class-B surface to create the plastic component of Door Trim.

Close Surface:

  • Using close surface,a solid model of the Door Trim is created from the plastic component.

Draft Analysis:

  • Draft Analysis is performed on the solid component of the door trim with draft angle 3°.

Locators:

  • This is the sketch of a 4-way locator.

  • Pad the given sketch.

  • Provide draft of 0.5°.

  • Chamfer the edges upto 3mm.

  • Provide fillet of 0.3mm on the locator.

Heat Stakes:

  • This is the sketch of the heat stake.

  • Pad the given sketch.Make sure the heat stake is shorter than the locator.

  • Provide draft of 0.5°.

  • Provide fillet of 0.25mm on the locator.

Door Trim With Locators & Heat Stakes:

  • Union Trim the Locators & Heat Stakes to form the Door Trim With Locators & Heat Stakes.

Draft Analysis:

  • Draft Analysis is performed on the Door Trim With Locators & Heat Stakes with draft angle 0.45°.

Conclusion:

  • Plastic Component and Solid Model Of the Door Trim is created.
  • Locators & Heat Stakes are created.
  • Draft Analysis is performed on the class-A,solid model of the Door Trim & Door Trim With Locators & Heat Stakes.
