Challenge

Week 10 - Challenge 3 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

Aim: To create locators and heat stakes on the given class A surface.

Locators: The main purpose of creating locators is to arrest the motion from its axis. Mainly locators are 2 types 2 way and 4-way locators. 2way locators arrest in one direction either X axis or Y axis (positive or negative). 4-way locators arrest in both the X-axis and Y-axis also.

Heat stakes: In automotive plastics heat stakes are used to attach 2 different bodies together. The main advantages are mechanical vibrations won't be there and while heating surrounding parts won't be damaged.

Procedure:

  • For a given class-A surface need to create a tooling axis.
  • After the need to create a Class-B surface with the help of Class-A by the off-set method to develop the engineering features.
  • After creating Class-B need to create Class-C with the help of Class-A by sweep with reference to the tooling axis.
  • After need to join both Class-A and C and both need to join Class-B. Finally need to do the closed surface.
  • Then perform draft analysis for that closed body.
  • Next need to create the engineering features like 4-way locators and heat stakes.
  • For this need to create a plan with respect to the tooling axis ( Normal to the curve).
  • Based on the image need to create two 4-way connectors. first, create one connector by padding and need to give the draft. After need to take a copy of the 1st connector and translate where we need to locate it by using the coordinate method.
  • Then finally need to do a union trim with the main body.
  • After creating the locators need to create heat stakes. In the given application we created 16 heat stakes. Need to create 1st heat stake with respect to the plane and need to translate the heat stake by using a point-point finally need to do a union trim with the main body.
  • Finally need to do a Draft analysis for the overall body.

Methode:

The given class-A surface Tooling Axis

B surface after off-set 2.5 mm with patches B surface after resolving all patches

C surface developed with respect to the Class-A Joining A and C

Final trim with A+C and B Final Body with 2 locators and heat stakes

draft analysis for the overall body.
