Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Objective:
For this model we have to simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. In this challenge change the bucket material as non linear and
run with three different types of non linear materials such as Stainless Steel NL,Aluminium Alloy NL and Magnesium Alloy analyse their behaviour
for the same velocity of bullet.
Procedure And Execution:
1.Open the ANSYS workbench in the system.
2.After opening the workbench, double click on the Explict Dynamics and rename it as Bucket And Bullet.

3.After that open the engineering data and add the material as Tantalum from the explict materials for the bullet and Stainless Steel
NL,Aluminium Alloy NL and Magnesium Alloy for the bucket from non linear materials from the engineering data sources.

4.After assigning the data, close the engineering data and perform right click on the geomentry.
5.Import the given geomentry as given above and click on update on the model.
6. To check the given geomentry right click on it and it will open into the space claim to view the geomentry.

7.After checking the given geomentry close the space claim and open the model by double click on it or it can be opened by right click on the
model and select edit option to start the mechanical module to open.

8.After opening the mechanical module,on the left side we can see a tree filter which contains all the components of the geomentry.

9.In the geomentry it consists of two components rename them as Bucket(Flexible) and Bullet(Rigid) as we observed.

10.Inside the connections there are default contacts created.Delete them and proceed for the further steps in analysis.
11.Now go to mesh create one mesh sizing and give the element size as 6mm as shown in the below fig.

12.In analysis settings change the end time into 0.01sec and leave the remaining settings as default.

13.After that create a fixed support for the bucket and give some velocity for the bullet as 139000mm/sec to travel through the bucket as shown in
below fig.

14.And now we can ready to run the analysis by right clicking on the solution to solve or by using the F5 key.
Results:
case 1 (For Stainless Steel And V=139000mm/sec)
Total Deformation

Equivalent Stress

Equivalent Strain

Temperature

case 2 (For Aluminium Alloy NL And V=139000mm/sec)
Total Deformation

Equivalent Stress

Equivalent Strain

Temperature

case 3 (For Magnesium Alloy NL And V=139000mm/sec)
Total Deformation

Equivalent Stress

Equivalent Strain

Temperature

Conclusion: We have successfully simulated the bullet penetrating bucket system. Results and conclusions are given below.
| Material | Max. Total Deformation(in mm) | Max.Equivalent Stress (in MPa) | Max. Equivalent Strain (in mm/mm) | Temperature |
| Aluminium Alloy | 1391 | 820.94 | 0.011908 | 1099.3 |
| Magnesium Alloy | 1390.5 | 833.61 | 0.021882 | 1652.7 |
| Stainless Steel | 1393 | 2031 | 0.012925 | 1834.1 |
1) Maximum Deformation, Stainless Steel > Aluminium Alloy > Stainless Steel.
2) Maximum Stress, Stainless Steel > Magnesium Alloy > Aluminium Alloy.
3) Maximum Strain, Magnesium Alloy > Stainless Steel > Aluminium Alloy.
4) Maximum Temperature , Stainless Steel > Magnesium Alloy > Aluminium Alloy.
