Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Objective: To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. You will need to use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet
Procedure:
- Drop the Explicit dynamics
- Choose the materials required for different cases from Engineering data
- Import the model in geometry
- Open the mechanical module
- Rename the geometry to bucket and bullet
- Assign the material to the bucket as per the different cases
- Assign Tantalum to the bullet
- Delete the contacts
- Body interaction should be frictionless
- Provide the edge sizing in mesh and generate the mesh
- For Bullet Turn stiffness factor to rigid
- Apply fixed support to the bullet
- Apply velocity of -139000 mm/s to the bullet.
Analysis Settings:

CASE 1 : Titanium Alloy NL
Equivalent Stress -

Total Deformation :

CASE 2 : Stainless Steel Alloy NL
Equivalent Stress

Total Deformation:

CASE 3 : Alluminium Alloy NL
Equivalent Stress:

Total Deformation:

Result:
| S. No | Material Used | Equivalent Stress (MPa) | Total Deformation (mm) |
| 1 | Titanium Alloy NL | 2230.8 | 1400 |
| 2 | Stainless Steel Alloy NL | 1872.4 | 1400 |
| 3 | Alluminium Alloy NL | 497.84 | 1400 |
Conclusion:
- Stress is highest for Titanium Alloy NL and lowest for Alluminium Alloy NL.
- Total Deformation is sam e for all the three cases.
