Week 1: Channel flow simulation using CONVERGE CFD

Week 1: Channel flow simulation using CONVERGE CFD

Here the different 3 base mesh sizes are varied for the simple pipe CONVERGE 3.0.

The three different meshes are dx – 0.0002 dx- 0.00015 dx- 0.00012

dy – 0.0002 dy- 0.00015 dy- 0.00012

dz – 0.0002 dz- 0.00015 dz- 0.00012

The value of the minimum number of cycles to be executed for the steady-state solver is fixed for the three different mesh sizes.

The problem mainly defined the flow through the pipe depends upon laminar flow only. All the turbulent flow files are should be neglected.

First of all, ensure all the normal are should be get the direction as flow through fluid flow.

The first process is to select the boundary of the problem here can we select the different types of boundary layers as per the instructions given. For the inlet set the pressure as above one bar compares to the outlet.

The selected region as selected and the reverse value of the inlet air mixture is defined for the smooth laminar process.

The value of the number of cycles to be executed for the steady-state solver is 1500

Monitor start delay is fixed as 100 cycles and the sample size is 100 cycles

Here the start delay will fix the maximum interval for the executed diagram if we fix the no of cycles in the steady-state solver is 15000 and the start delay is monitored each step of the output.

The base gird value should be differentiating the three meshes of the problem. Here the values should increase the number of elements present the diagram of pipe.

Here we have clearly known that the value of the base grid dx dy dz are can be decreases the number of elements present the pipe has been increased and also the accuracy of the flow should be increased.

For the post-processing files, we can set the time interval for the writing 3D output data files

Here the number of output data files time can calculate as,

Output variable steps time = Number of cycles to be executed for the steady-state solver / Time interval for writing output data files.

For example, 1500/100 = 15 output steps time can be set.

The maximum number of restart files can be set as 3 files.

After the post-conversion all the output files are can be converting into vtm file.

Finally using the ParaView software the simulation process can be done using the group file is selected.

Using the line plot monitor all the pressure density mass flow rates are calculated in word file format and graphs are also plotted vs cycle.

The video shows the third base gird animation uploaded the YouTube.

For the first case the pressure for the 0th cycle 0.101325 699th Cycle is 0.10000033

Second case setup 0th cycle is 0.101325 15000th cycle is 0.10000041

Third case setup 0th cycle is 0.101325 1199th cylcle is 0.10000048
