Underbody Coating
Report of Under-Body Coating
Under-Body Coating:
- Underbody coating is usually a thick cladding (often based on rubber) applied uniformly to the automobile's undercarriage. It is usually sprayed or painted on when the car is just out of the dealership and is clean. But even if you get the undercoating applied after a couple of years, it's fine too.
- Underbody coating uses a sealant or chemical that may be applied by the robots or manually so that it reaches every surface properly. This coating is applied after the ED coating is done to the whole body of the vehicle again after a maximum of five to six years to use.

Pre-treatment:
- The first step in preparing BIW for subsequent coating is the pre-treatment process. Pre-treatment consists of cleaning the body surface to remove remaining oils from the stamping process and welding residues through three primary liquid dip processes of degreasing, conditioning and phosphating.
ELECTRODEPOSITION:
- The metal underbody and frames of automobiles are coated to prevent corrosion, whereas other areas like the roof are not rust‐proofed. When not painted to avoid corruption, the structural metals (or other materials) are primed before adding additional coatings.
Types of Vehicle Under-Body Coating:
Now let us look at the various automotive under-body coating you can use for your vehicle.
- Rubberized Under-body Coating. This is generally thought of as the best under-body coating for your car.
- Wax-Based Under-body Coating.
- Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating.
- Polyurethane Under-body Coating.
Advantages of Under-Body Coating:
- Undercoating is designed to help lengthen the life of a car by preventing rust and other corrosion issues.
- An undercoating is excellent, especially in an environment that is not always dry, such as in Seattle.
- Moisture can get trapped in and around components of vehicles, resulting in rust.
Disadvantages of Under-Body Coating:
- Nothing comes for free in this world. The same goes for undercoating.
- The undercoating or rustproofing spray is heavy in pockets. However, comparing it with the cost of replacing a vehicle after corrosion is nothing.
