Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING
Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
- It is a must to make sure the underbody is given a layer of protection from all grime and grit and annual clean up and touch up iis necessary.
- Car body is made up of several metals such as Iron, Steel, Aluminium, Copper etc., Rusting is the common term for corrosion of iron and its alloys.
- Corrosion is the reaction of iron and oxygen, as many present in water or Air moisture.
- Any iron material when exposed to both Oxygen and water is bound to rust, unless a preventive coating is applied on to it. A car's underbody is exposed to the most wear and tear caused by muddy water, stones and other obstacles on the road.
- Because it's not in plain slight, we often do not see the damage. Underbody coating or treatment offers a long term solution for issues related to corrosion and rust.
- The treatment makes a corrosion resistant protection film on the underbody surface that protects it from rust and abrasives and covers under chassis and wheel arches.

Types of UNDERBODY COATING
1. RUBBERZIED UNDERBODY COATING-:
This is generally thought of as the best underbody coating for your car. It preserves the underbody well, protecting it from scratches. Applying this to the undercarriage is not much of a hassle either.
2. WAX BASED UNDERBODY COATING-:
This ismore or less, ephemeral undercoating will wear away in a few month's time. On the upside, wax-based undercoating puts up a big fight against moisture. It is also the most affordable option out there.
3. ASPHALT BASED AUTOMOTIVE UNDERCOATING-:
Best suited for lorries, trucks and large vehicles this provides a greater degree of protection compared to rubber-based coatings. However, asphalt-based coatings contain little amounts of rubber for sound-insulation purposes. The process of applying this coating is a bit time-consuming though.
4. POLYURETHANE UNDERBODY COATING-:
This coating closes up splits and fractures on the underbody of the vehicle. It offers up good protection against corrosion and also bonds with the metal. Unlike in the case of asphalt-based coating, you can paint over the polyurethane coating.
ADVANTAGES-:
- Underbody coating gives an extra layer of protection against rust and corrosion, protecting your car.
- Underbody coating will eventually wear out, but you can get years of protection from it.
- It can be self-applied.
- It minimizes the sound from underneath the car.
- It insulates the interior of the car from the extreme temperature from beneath the vehicle.
- The coating does not chip away when hit by stones.
DIS-ADVANTAGES-:
- Underbody coating will not help you if corrosion already exists and the corrosion need to be removed first before it can be applied, which can be expensive for you.
- It must re-applied every 3 to 5 years for the best results.
- It adds weight to the vehicle.
