Underbody Coating

Underbody Coating:

  • Underbody or frame of previous vehicles made from durable metals such as steel, which can be easily damaged due to contact of stones, muddy water, rugged roads, etc.
  • As we know technology and competition parallelly growing very fast. Now organization introduced with Body in White ( BiM ). An integration of vehicle body and frame. Polycarbonate material, aluminum and other materials that are more stable against corrosion. To make them more durable organization applying various types of underbody coating.
  • Rusting is the process which comes in the play when Anode release electrons due to contact of oxygen and these electrons went to cathodes. The metal at the cathode starts disappearing and depositing as rust. This rusting of iron or steel results in corrosion.

Types of underbody coatings:

  1. Rubberized Underbody coating: Acting as a barrier against salt, moisture, oxygen and other substances which may lead to rust and corrosion.
  2. Wax based Underbody coating: Can be used as rust proof and a lubricant in production facilities which relying upon the water, heavy duty excavation machines.
  3. Dripless Oil Spray: Required holes to be drilled in to the body of the vehicle at specific points to cover all the unseen areas, most commonly used solution.
  4. Asphalt based underbody coating:

Advantages:

  • Rust prevention
  • Absorbs Noise
  • Reinforcement (Strengthening)
  • Protects from Road material, objects, Grave
  • Prolong cars life

Disadvantages:

  • Cost of chemicals or coating is high
  • Some chemicals have very bad smells (Ex. Lanolin)
  • Have to repeat in the period of time to get best results.
