Underbody Coating

UNDER BODY COATING

A car's underside is directly exposed to the dirts and muds of the road. Over prolonged exposure to such unwanted crass, rusts and abrasions can cause damage to the underbody of the car. This leads to the reduction in value and longevity of the car. These rusts inturn affect the main body of the car and can lead to hazardous endings.

Underbody coating are protects the vehicle against corrosion, moisture, chemicals, water and chipping.

Types of Under body coating

1. Polyurethane underbody coating

It closes up fractures and splits in the underside of the vehicle. It bonds well with the metal and offers good protection against corrosion. Paint can be applied over this coating

2. Wax Based Undercoating

It is an afforadable and easy solution. It protects heavily against moisture.

3. Rubberized Underbody Coating

Applying this coating to the underbody is easy and hasslefree. It is widely used and is considered the optimum for the car. It preserves the under body well and protects it from scratches.

4. Asphalt Underbody Coating

This coating is preferred mainly for havy duty vehicles. It is time consuming and has a rubber insulation to it for damping the sound. It gives a higher degree of protection with respect to the others.

METHODS OF APPLICATION

1.OIL SPRAY

i. Dripless - In this process a waxy layer is applied to the undercarriage and the main body being a strong protection to both. It however has a lesser longevity

ii. Drip - It is very effective for the undercarriage. It has no bubbling and cover all the corners of the undercarriage. It forms a good layer of protection.

2. Electronic - The body and the undercarriage is dipped fully inside an electrolyte. It reduces the chances of rusting by giving it a layer of electrolytic material coating.

3. Spray - It is a commmon method used by Serive Centres and dealers. It is used to protect already produced cars from day to day hazards as mentioned in the introduction.

ADVANTAGES

1. Protects Important and Vital Car components

2. Prevents from corrosion and rust

3. Reduces Noise Level Vibration

4. Prevents Chipping of paint

5. Gives Longevity to the vehicle

DISADVANTAGES

1. With the reduction in vehicle age, coating depletes and requies a re-coating

2. It has less effect on previous corrosive damages
