Underbody Coating

UNDERBODY COATING

  • What is underbody coating?

Underbody coating is a process which provides a long-term protection from corrosion to the underbody of the car. It also plays a major role in protecting the body parts like Frame rails, internal body panels and the other inner cavities that are not physically or easily accessible to us but are prone to corrosion.

  • Types of underbody coating?
  1. Rubberized underbody coating

This type of underbody coating is easy to apply and it even offers good sound cushioning as well as protects from dust, moisture and dents. This also protects the underbody from scratches, hence in applying the rubberized underbody coating is not much of hazzle either.

  1. Wax based underbody coating

This type of coating is more or less as the ephemeral undercoating which can fade away in few months, on the other side it puts up a big shield against moisture, it is the quicker and most reasonable process used.

  1. Asphalt based underbody coating

This undercoating is best suitable for large vehicles like trucks, lorries etc. providing a greater sight of protection when compared to the rubber-based underbody coating, but however this type of coating contain some amount of rubber for the sound insulation purposes. This process is even a more time-consuming process.

  1. Polyurethane underbody coating

This type of underbody coating mainly closes up the splits and the factures on the underbody of the vehicle. It even protects the vehicle from corrosion and also bonds with the metal. The Asphalt based underbody coating can be painted over this polyurethane coating.

  • What are the benefits or pros of the underbody coating?

Some of the important benefits which we assume from underbody coating are:

-It minimizes the sound from underneath the car which helps in getting noiseless, smooth driving experience

-The inside cabin of the car gets insulated from the extreme temperature of the underbody.

-It resists the underbody, if any stone hits the underbody coating, it will not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.

-The wear and tear can be reduced by the underbody coating.

-Reinforcement: if the car comes with the underbody coating already, using another underbody coating, is not going to give out any bad results whereas it will result in additional reinforcement protecting the underbody from road debris, water, gravel and small pebbles, and the chances of the factory coat to fade away is less in this case

  • What the disadvantages or cons of the underbody coating?

-This underbody coating waives a lot much high price, prices vary for each type of coating selected. However, it is nothing when you compare it with the cost of replacing a vehicle after corrosion.

-The underbody coating must be applied by the proper experienced person so that it can be applied exact portion and how much to be applied and where all to be applied, it should not be applied to the rotating parts, joints, bearing, etc. which can get damaged soon.
