Underbody Coating
Underbody coating
Underbody coating is a thick cladding that is placed uniformly to the car’s underside. When the automobile is fresh off the lot and spotless.
It is done by spraying or painted on it.
A thick resilient coating applied to the underbody or chassis of an automobile to protect against impact damage from small stones, which would rapidly chip ordinary paint, allowing rusting to begin.
Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car’s underbody.
The underbody coating that is most commonly used on cars in India and supplied by companies such as 3mm thickness.

Purpose of underbody coating
1)It's designed to create a rust-proof layer between the underside of the vehicle and the water, ice, and salt of the road. Undercoating provides a more comprehensive protective layer for your vehicle.
2)Underbody coating protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
3)Underbody coating can also reduce wear and tear of the parts.
4)It even acts as sound absortion absorbs the road noise while driving.
Types of underbody coating
1)Rubberized underbody coating.
2)Waxbased underbody coating.
3)Asphalt based automotive undercoating.
4)Polyurethane underbody coating.
1)Rubberized underbody coating

i)It is widely considered as the best underbody coating for your car.It protects the underbody from scratches and keeps it properly. This can be done in an authorized service center or by the local workshop at a reasonable price.
ii)Applying this to the undercarriage is not much of a hassle either use of black rubberised coating provides corrosion protection for undercarriages, wheel wells and quarter panels.
iii)The undercoating dries to a soft, rubbery finish that helps reduce road noise and protects against moisture, rust and road debris.
2)Waxbased underbody coating.

i)A paraffin-based undercoating will be the cheapest and quickest option available with which to protect the undercarriage of your vehicle.
ii)During application, they drip or flow into seams and cracks to provide protective properties. They are usually available in a spray gun canister or in an aerosol can and offer at least a base protection in moderately humid climates.
iii)A paraffin-based undercoating will be the cheapest and quickest option available with which to protect the undercarriage of your vehicle.
iv) It is the most affordable option for undercoating.Advantage of this process is protects against the moisture and the drawback is it gets faded away in few months.
3)Asphalt based automotive undercoating.

i)Asphalt-based coatings contain little amounts of rubber for sound-insulation purposes. The process of applying this coating is a bit time-consuming though.
ii)Asphalt-based undercoating generally contains a little bit of rubberized material that sets up firmly and also helps soften noise. This type of undercoating also needs more cure time than the other three, and is NOT paintable, making it best to use only for undercarriages.
iii) For large trucks and heavy machinery, asphalt-based undercoating provides a bit of extra durability against rocks, chips, and moisture.
4)Polyurethane underbody coating.

i)The other option for undercoating your vehicle is to use Polyurethane based sealant This type of vehicle undercoating is a little bit quicker and easier to apply.
ii)Oftentimes, polyurethane undercoating will come in canisters ready to preload into an application gun. This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, displacing salt and moisture and oozing around rusty areas to bond with and protect unoxidized metal.
iii)It also sands quickly in case you'll need to perform bodywork and can be painted over.
iv)This type of undercoating generally requires a little bit more surface prep work before applying sanding and applying an etching primer to bare metals before using are generally recommended.
v)It offers up good protection against corrosion and also bonds with the metal. Unlike in the case of asphalt-based coating, you can paint over the polyurethane coating.
Advantages of underbody coating
1)Fights Rust.
2)Absorbs Noise.
3)Reinforcement.
4)Prolong car’s Life.
5)Cover's small damages.
Disadvantages of underbody coating
1)It increases the weight of the vehicle.
2)Cost is on the higher side.
3)It must be reapplied every 3 to 5 years for the best results.
4)Vehicle's warranty might be avoided while applying it on new car.
5)It isn't effective while the vehicle is patially corroded.
Conclusion,
Here,we studied about the underbody coating, types, advantages and disadvantages while applying it on the vehicle.
