Underbody Coating
*Underbody coating is the layer of protection done to the undercarriage of the vehicle i.e. the surface which is facing the road. The main purpose of the underbody coating is to make the undercarriage surface corrosion-resistant and reduce wear and tear.
*Following are the types of Underbody coating:
1) Rubberized Underbody coating-
- Rubberized underbody coating is done to prevent the undercarriage of the vehicle from rust, moisture, or dents. Also, it helps in reducing noise.
2) Wax-based Underbody coating-
-Wax-based underbody coating is one of the cheapest underbody coating processes available. The only disadvantage of this underbody coating is that it may wear off quickly as compared to other underbody coatings and may have to reapply within 1 year.
*Pros-
1) Corrosion resistant-
-An underbody coating should be applied to a vehicle mostly to be utilized in coastal areas or humid areas. Since the seawater tends to corrode the material sooner so an underbody coating will be helpful to prevent the corrosion occurring to the undercarriage surface.
2) Sound insulators-
-Applying an underbody coating, especially rubberized coating can minimize the sound while traveling and it will lead to a quiet cabin and reduce interior noise.
3) Clean and uniform undercarriage look-
-The undercarriage surface looks neat and clean and well maintained surface.
*Cons-
1) Increase the weight of the vehicle-
-Since, the weight of the vehicle increases fuel consumption also increases and can reduce the mileage.
2) Third-party underbody coating might void the vehicle's warranty-
-While purchasing a new vehicle one is to confirm if applying an additional layer of underbody coating might void the vehicle's warranty or not.
3) Need to reapply within 4-5 years-
-If the vehicle is being used in coastal areas then you may need to revise the underbody coating of the vehicle within every 3 years.
