Underbody Coating

UNDERBODY COATING

Underbody coasting is a kind of liquid that is applied under the car to prevent rusting over ages. This coating is done on time of delivery or on the period of service. They are sprayed or painted on the exposed metal parts under the car which controls the oxidation process.

Usually all the metal parts of the car are coated with the anti rust material on the time of manufacturing the parts in the factory. This coating the enough to prevent the rusting in cars at moderate environment condition. But the area with high rain fall, high moisture in air, area near sea, over expoture to water would accelerate the rusting process. So it is better to apply underbody coating for reliabililty of the cars.

The underbody coating are of different types:

  • Rubberized coating
  • Wax coating
  • Asphalt coating
  • Polyurethane coating

Rubberized coating:

It is usually painted on the parts to be protective. This coating can also be used on wheels to protect them from rusting and small damages. Rubberized coating can removed easily with help of remover. This also helps to insulate road noise inside the cabin. Rubberized coating are best option protect car from damges due to derbis.

Wax coating:

Wax coating are one of the cheapest and quickest way of applying underbody coating. They proctect proctect the car pats form rust and corrosion. But they wear off quickly and have to be reworked once a year. They are also available as aerosol can making the applying process much easier. Wax coating would withstand against a moderate humid conditions which more suitable option for the lite users to have them at low cost.

Polyurethane coating:

Polyurethane coats are easy to apply. They are spared using gun in the service centers. This coating would last for long time and work well for rust and corrosion resistance. Although it is one of the best option lot of prework had to done before applying the coat like sanding the Whole area, applying etching primer for proper application of the coat.

Asphalt coating:

Asphalt coatings are more suitable for large trucks and heavy vehicles. They are extremely durable and withstand against rocks, chips and moist. Asphalt coats are not available as liquid and are not paintable as other coats. Asphalt coats also consist of rubberized material witch give an additional benifit of nose reduction in the cabin. They are not suitable for cars as they adds more weight.

Advantages of underbody coating:

  • Rust protection
  • Prevent damage against debris
  • Help to reduce road noise inside the cabin
  • Helps to maintain the car easier

Disadvantages of underbody coating:

  • High cost
  • More careful while applying: applying the coat in the moving parts like axle, suspension, gear rods can cause a mechanical malfunctions.
