Section Modulus calculation and optimization

SECTION MODULUS OF THE HOOD

Section modulus defines the ability of the shape to withstand bending.

S=I/Y

( S=section modulus; I - moment of inertia; Y - distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object )

CASE 1:

Moment of inertia of this hood ( I ) : 6162.419 mm^4

Distance between the neutral axis and the end of the object ( Y ) : 242.45 mm

So section modulus:

S=I/Y

S=6162.419/242.45

S=25.417 mm^3

CASE 2:

Moment of inertia of this hood ( I ) : 5877.816 mm^4

Distance between the neutral axis and the end of the object ( Y ) : 242.45 mm

So section modulus:

S=I/Y

S=5877.816/242.45

S=24.243 mm^3
