Challenge

To Analysis and Design of Steel Structures using TSD

1)

Aim - To summarize study for the bending moment, shear force and deflection diagrams for the elements of the model

Introduction -

i)There are various types of analysis are available in Tekla Structural Designer

ii) But in this we are performing 1st Order Linear Analysis

1st order linear -

i) 1st order linear static analysis is suitable for small structures where secondary effects are negligible.

ii) Any nonlinear springs or nonlinear elements present are constrained to act linearly.

iii) Load cases and Combinations to be considered in the analysis can be pre-selected.

Procedure -

Step 1)

i) Open the previous model which we saved.

ii) As we have already add the Seismic load previously

iii) Check the load combination.

iv) Before Analysis just check the Modification factor setting

v) Go to setting - Analysis - Modification factor - Steel

Step 2)

i) Now in the Analyze tab click on 1st order Linear to perform the analysis.

ii) After that click on result view at the bottom corner.

iii) In result view we can clearly see the bending moment of each member.

iv) and also, we can see major and minor bending moment under every load combination.

1) Bending Moment -

i) Click on Results - Major Moment and Minor Moment to see the Bending moment as follows

2) Shear Force -

3) Deflection -

4) Axial Force -

Results - The Bending moment, Shear force and Deflection diagram was studied for the given model.

2)

Aim - To design the members and outline the thought process in selecting the member sizes along with the foundation design

Procedure -

i) Once the model is analyze

ii) Click on Review tab to see the status of the member

1) Column -

i) Open the Frame A

ii) Click on Reviw tab to see the status

iii) Right click on member - Check the member - Static

Detail Design of Column -

2) Beam -

3) Rafter -

4) Foundation Modeling

i) Click on foundation tab - padded foundation - then select pad base foundation

ii) The foundation was then designed.

iii) Similarly as done in beam and Column, footing criteria was also checked here

Results - Foundation was check for given structure
