Structural analysis of a buidling using Robot Structural Analysis

1) The initials HVAC stand for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. They describe the functions of an HVAC system. This mechanical system’s design is primarily an attempt to take control of the environmental conditions inside the space you work. A good HVAC system aims to provide thermal control and indoor comfort, and one that is designed using the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. The big air conditioner boxes that you might see on top of apartment blocks or offices are examples of (the visible part of HVAC systems. They’re typically deployed in large industrial buildings, skyscrapers, apartment blocks, and large interior environments. They’re also an essential component of environments where there are healths regulations requiring that temperature and humidity be kept at certain levels, using air taken from outside. But heating and cooling systems you use in your home are also HVAC systems. They may take a different form, but many of the fundamental principles determining how they operate, as well as their efficiency, crosses over from the smallest of personal devices right through to the biggest commercial installations.

Why are they essential in modelling:-

Why HVAC is important will differ in each of its applications, but the goal for most residential and commercial HVAC customers is comfort, especially in parts of the country with extreme weather. Luckily, San Diego offers near-perfect weather year-round with only a few months out of the year seeing extreme heat and cold. Because the seasons offer mostly bearable, if not great, weather, heating, and cooling are not always a necessity, but are always welcome respite during the hot summer days and cool winter nights, especially in the inland areas.

There are many great options for homeowners when choosing a new heating and cooling system. Whether you’re investing in an HVAC solution for a larger home, commercial building, small condo unit, craftsman style home without ducting solutions, or any other manner of residential and commercial space, an HVAC installation can produce massive benefits when it comes to temperature control and energy efficiency.

  • Now the HVAC system is setup for the room, repeat the same process for all the floors in the building.

RESULT: Now we have added the HVAC system for the building including distribution center, collectors, ducts and blowers.

3) Steps to add install tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis:

  • First check whether the robot structural analysis is enabled or disabled.
  • If not available we have to download it from auto desk store.
  • Click on the trolley logo (or) shopping cart logo on the top of revit.
  • The Autodesk store opens, in the search box type structure analysis followed by the respective version /year of the revit software.
  • Then download the tool.
  • The robot structural analysis will be reflected in our revit software.

4) A building condition assessment can also be useful if you are planning to renovate the building, because your contractor will review the building condition assessment to help determine total renovation costs. Not only can defects revealed in a building inspection be points for negotiation with the seller, but knowledge of required upgrades can also help you plan for adequate financing. A building condition assessment helps shed light on what costs to expect immediately and in the next few years.

Structure is one of the important components in a building. We cannot imagine or achieve a successful building without a proper structure. The structure framework acts as a skeleton framework to the building. All the loads are being taken by the structural part. The architecture part only plays an important role in the appearance of the building. Structure analysis is very important to a building as to know how much load can the building bare and how long the building can with hold the loads. Before the construction of the building we do not have all the components installed in the building like walls and other components, so before we construct the building we have to do the analysis on taking appropriate load values to calculate how much load the structure can bare. After the construction of the building if the structure collapses as it cannot hold the load, then we cannot do anything. We can calculate the total load, deflections, SFD and BMD.

Structure analysis can also be considered as a demo test or sample test to get a detailed strength of the structure. In a building we have many types of loads like point load, uniform load, area load and so on. So in this analysis we can add the type of load we want and assume the load values to test our structure. It is considered better if the structure holds more load than the load capacity calculated in the analysis. The design affects the model so we have to place the columns at such places where they do not cause much disturbance and at places where it can hold maximum amount of load. So thus we can conclude that it is necessary to do the structure analysis while modeling elements and we can say that the design affects modeling.

5) AIM: To perform robot structure analysis to the building created in the previous week.

a) Boundary conditions are the conditions which are to be satisfied at all parts of a biundary region where differential conditions have to be solved separetely. For the analysis of the structure we have to have loads, as in oue case we do not have any loads so we have to assume suitable amount of load for the analysis. We have have forces in any direction along X, Y or Z axis. We have to assume that the total moment as 0 and the structure is in equilibrium. We have to place loads at suitable places so as to complete the analysis. The list of parameters required are :

  1. Degree of freedom.
  2. Supports.
  3. Type of load.
  4. Opposing loads.

b) Since my structure is residential unit the possible loads of mine is Dead load, Live load and wind load.

c)There is 2 load combination:

  1. Load combination 1 = 1*Dead Load + 1.5* Live load
  2. Load Combination 2 = 1*Dead Load + 1.5* Live load + 1.75 * Wind load

PROCEDURE:

  • Open a floor plan which already created in previous week
  • Create floor using floor tool in Architectural tab
  • Place the floor in the boundary area of the plan
  • After creating the floor create a span direction
  • Click Span direction in modify tab
  • Choose draw tool option and create a span line
  • Click tick mark and finish creating the span direction
  • Now the Span direction is created vertically on middle of the floor plan
  • Place a beam and clolumn on the floor by clicking beam in Structural tab
  • Choose 12x24 Rectangular concrete beam
  • Similarly choose 12x18 rectangular coloumn
  • Place it both on the floor
  • After creating the beam and column switch your model into 3d view
  • Orelse switch it into analyze 3d model
  • Click Loads in Manage tab
  • Add the new load combination
  • Create a applied loads on the floor
  • Naming the appropriate name for the load combinations
  • Then click Ok
  • After applying the load condition create a boundary condition for the floor
  • Go to modify tab click boundary condition
  • Choose type as fixed
  • Click the place you want to create a boundary.
  • Click tick mark and finish
  • Click load in manage tab
  • Select the type of load and choose the load area
  • Place the point load and draw the load area by clicking the draw tool
  • Click tick mark and finish
  • Create a wind load by clicking the point load and edit the fz value
  • Fx value =0.1 and fz value =0
  • Click apply
  • After applying the necessary loads go to analyze tab
  • Click Robot structural analysis and choose robot structural link
  • Then the file will open on Robot structural tool
  • Click analyse and choose calculation
  • Now the file will start analysing
  • Click result tab
  • Select Reaction option
  • Reaction values will appears on the screen
  • Click result and choose Diagram
  • Tick mark the mx my mz for moment
  • After clicking the moments the moment diagram will appear
  • It shows each load combination which we assign earlier
  • For displacements, click result
  • Choose Displacement option
  • Then the screen will shows the displacement values of each load combinations
  • In the diagram option check all the boxes
  • The screen will shows momentum, diplacement and lateral load for each load combination.

e) After the analysis i think I have a better approach or idea in modeling structural members.

6) The process in the design phase which one or more building energy simulation program uses a proper adjusted BIM model to conduct energy assessments for the current building design. The core goal of this BIM use is to inspect building energy standard compatibility and seek opportunities to optimize proposed design to reduce structure's life-cycle costs.

  • Save time and costs by obtaining building and system information automatically from BIM model instead of inputting data manually
  • Improve building energy prediction accuracy by auto-determining building information such as geometries, volumes precisely from BIM model
  • Help with building energy code verification
  • Optimize building design for better building performance efficiency and reduce building life-cycle cost.
