Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.
Also, assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.
Solution:
Taking Plot Size - 50' x 50'
Ground Floor :

Structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction :
- center line drawing.
- Footing and column layout with reinforcement details
- column schedule with reinforcement detail
- plinth beam layout with reinforcement detail
- first floor beam layout with reinforcement detail
- first floor slab layout with reinforcement detail.
- Lift pit and headroom reinforcement detail.
Dead Load :
- Column Section = 0.230 x 0.375
- Height of Column = 4.5 m
- Volume of Column = 0.230 x 0.375 x 4.5 = 0.388
- Unit weight of concrete = 25 kN/m3
- Dead Load of Column = 0.388 x 25 = 9.703 kN
- Beam Section = 0.230 x 0.45
- Unit weight od concrete = 25 kN/m3
- Dead Load for Beam = 0.230 x 0.45 x 25 = 2.587 kN/m
- Slab Thickness = 0.125 m
- Unit weight od concrete = 25
- Dead Load of Slab = 0.125 x 25 = 3.125 kN/m2
- Wall Height = 4.5 m
- Width of wall = 0.23 m
- Unit weight of Brick = 20
- Dead Load of Wall = 4.5 x 0.23 x 20 = 20.7 kN/m
Live Load:
As per IS:875(Part 2)-1987 Table 1 plan is of Dwelling house Residential building so the live loads are as follows :
Living/Dining, Pooja = 3.0 kN/m2
Kitchen = 2.0 kN/m2
Dress & Bathroom = 2.0 kN/m2
All Bed room/Study Room = 2.0 kN/m2
Terrace, Balcony, Utility Space = 3.0 kN/m2
Wind Load:
Since, Wind load is considered only when height of the building is more than 10 m. But in our case Height is less than 10 m so, Wind Load will not be considered.
