INTRODUCTION OF SECTION MODULUS:
What is mean by section modulus.?. Section modulus is the geometric property of the given cross-section of any shaft or other beam structure.it is the direct measure of the strength of the shaft section or the beam section. Higher the section modulus of a structure will bring high resistive of the shaft or other beam structure.
In this part we can calculate and measure the hood section inertia and then increase resistive of the hood with the help of section inertia calculation as below.
S=I/Y
Were,
S = Section of Inertia
I = Area moment of inertia
Y = Distance from neutral axis
Below formula most commonly used for calculate section modulus of some other component like rectangular bar, Dimond, c-channel, Circular hollow section, etc.

Neutral Axis:
What is mean by neutral axis, The neutral axis is an axis in the cross section of a beam (a member resisting bending) or shaft along which there are no longitudinal stresses or strains. If the section is symmetric, isotropic and is not curved before a bend occurs, then the neutral axis is at the geometric centroid. All fibres on one side of the neutral axis are in a state of tension, while those on the opposite side are in compression.
Section Modulus calculation of the hood design:
Case 1:
Initial Hood design.
Area Moment of Inertia : I (min) = 2.297e+04 (mm^4)
Area Moment of inertia : I (max) = 6.247e+06(mm^4)
Area : A = 85.99
Distance from neutral Axis : Y = 871.8
Section modulus : S=I/Y
= 6.247 * e+06 /871.8
= 7165.63 mm^3

Case 2:
Optimise Hood design.
Area Moment of Inertia : I (min) = 2.277e+04 (mm^4)
Area Moment of inertia : I (max) = 6.298e+06(mm^4)
Area : A = 87.350
Distance from neutral Axis : Y = 871.8
Section modulus : S=I/Y
= 6.298 * e+06 /871.8
= 7224.1 mm^3

Conclusion:
Comparing both case we can clearly says that the section modulus of the optimized hood Increased by 2%
