Roof challenge
Roof Design
What is Roof?
Roof of car is aimpotant element which protects passengers, Roof block the rain wind hail and,
snow.. They also catch most of the sunlight.
The integration of structurs and components into the roof of a steel car body was first attempted in the Ford THINK,
a small electric car. The front rail of this vehicle,
the structural member which runs over the top of the doors, is designed as a visible aluminium component
the extruded aluminium profile (alloy EN AW-6060) includes the A pillar and ends at the top rear end.
The length of the beam is about 2.2 m, the profile has a hollow cross section with flanges and it is 3-dimensionally formed
the beam upper face is exposed to the atmosphere and the surface is untreated.

Parts of a Roof - (all parts are 0.75 mmthick)
1. Roof outer panel
2. Front roof rail
3. Center roof rail
4. Bow roof 1
5. Bow roof 2
6. Rear roff rail
Roof Outer Panel.
Roff outer panel- we can call as a outer cover of our car.
To make this more stronger we supports by roof rails and bows, which joined by mean of
mastic material.

Roof Rails
A main design consideration is whether the roof rail is joined to the vehicle from the inside or
from the outside of the roof. Joining from the inside enables the use of Mastic material supports.
Roof rail support for mounting from the outside the vehicle with a removable cover
Apart from permanently attached roof rails, there are also roof rail variants which can be
easily mounted when needed.
Front Roof Rail
Front roof rail is provided front of outer roof at 0mm distance from front styling sheet edge.

Calculations for designing a car Roof
Mainly there are two calculation we do genaraly.
1. Heat distortion calculation.
2. Snow load calculation.
Heat Distortion criteria:

Conclusion - For all four cases design parameters are passing result as <= 2.7 so it is ok.
Snow load criteria:

Conclusion - For all four cases design parameters are passing QR result as => 3.1 so it is ok.
