Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheel arch calcution are one of the importnat calculations to determine the wheel position from the fender.
the purpose of calcution is to keep wheel inside the fender, to privent hit mud and stone paricle to car body
and also it has major roole in pedestain safety controle.

What if wheel calcutions are not as per standrds?
In these type of cars there is high risk for pedestians and stone and mud particls will hit the front door as well as pedestians.
hear some examples bellow :-

Fender regulations
Fender regulations are made by their goverments and as well as road safety authorities
these regulations are vaery from counry to country, some of as given bellow.
European standards:-
As per european standardsthere is must be greater the 10mm celarance between tyre and fender arch, takeing pont 30 degree forward and 50 degree reverse
after taking 150 mm vertical point from nearest bottom arch of fender.

Japan standards :-
As per japan standards clearnce between tyre and fender arch should be greater than 5mm, whicle we take ponit from 30 degree forward
and 50 degree revese.

US standards :-
As US standards says, we have to take points from -20 degree to 180 degree 10 degree each, at thet pont clearnce must be greater than
5 mm at every 10 degree.

Measured as per European standards
Proceuder
i) Mark center point of wheel and draw horizontal lone.
ii) Draw a center vertical line.
iii) Draw 30 degree forward and 50 degree reverse line.
iv) Highlight lowest arch of the fender and on that mark a ponit at 150 mm heaght from horizontal line.
v) Draw a intersecting line with 150 mm point with respect to center of wheel.
vi) Draw a middle line between 50 degree line and 150 mm intersecting line.
vii) mark points on drawn lines and highlighted arch - as SB, SA, SC,SD, and SE.
viii) Poroject the marking ponts on fender arch.
ix) measure the distance between drawn mark point projected mark point.
x) compare the vallues with the rquired vallues.

Measuring SB point.
SB pont is 10 mm clearance between tyre and arch

Measuring piont SA
This point has clearcne of 9.94 mm only.

Measuring point SC
Sc point is outside of the arch -0.11

Measuring point SD
SD ponit is outside of the arch -2.88

Measuring SE point
SE pont is outside of arch -5.99

As per european standardsthere is must be greater the 10mm celarance between tyre and fender arch.
| Point | Measured vallue |
| SA | 10.00 |
| SB | 9.94 |
| SC | -0.11 |
| SD | -2.88 |
| SE | -5.99 |
Conclusion :-
As per above measered data Point SA is satsify, but othr 4 ponts SB, SC, SD and SE pont are not satsifyibg europen
standards.
So i have to discuss with my styling colleagues to make fender little bit wide or shift wheel slightly inside.
