Roof challenge
Aim:
To create the roof structure of the automobile, with the respective members consisting of FRONT ROOF RAIL, REAR ROOF RAIL, REINFORCEMENT and BOW ROOF RAILS.
Definition:
A roof is the portion of an automobile that sits above the passenger compartment, protecting the vehicle occupants from sun, wind, rain, and other external elements.
Parts Of Roof:
Generally, the roof consists of 4 parts, namely
* Front Roof Rail
* Rear Roof Rail
* Reinforcement Roof Rails
* Bow-roof Rails
Procedure:
* Class-A surface is given, and is downloaded.

Making Of Front Roof Rail:
* From the Class-A surface, The OFFSET is then performed with Half of the surface.
* Use EXTRACT to extract the edges and use SWEEP for 5 degrees.

After Sweeping the surfaces, Join the surfaces using JOIN command.

* Use Edge Fillet to make the surface into curvy edges.

* Use "Symmetry" option to Mirror the surface.

* Give SEW-SURFACE to join the surface, so that there will be no boundary gap.

* The Final Product is Obtained.

* Make the Roof into Solid Part.

Creation Of Front And Rear Roof Rails:

* Offset the surfaces as given below.

* Use Split to split the excess surfaces.
* Do the same for another surface.

* Sweep the surfaces as given below.

* Use Multiple Extract to create the MULTI-SECTION solids.

* Join the Surfaces.

* Use Edge Fillet.

* Create the Plane to split the surface which are in excess one.

* Create the Symmetrical plane and join the surfaces.

* Thicken the surface.

* Repeat the process for creating the rear roof rail.

* Join the surfaces as given in the diagram and use edge fillets.

* Thicken the Surface.

* Creation of Bow-roof:
* Split the extracted surface.

* Use Intersect option to create the line for bow roof.

* Project the lines on the offset surface.

* Split the surface to remove the excess surface.

* Again Offset the surface .

* Create the Parallel curves of 5 mm each.

* Use split to remove the unwanted faces, and use sweep about the degree of 3, to create the joining surfaces.

* Use edge fillets of 2.2mm on this surface.

* To create the Bow roof sides, offset the surface about 0.95 mm

* Split the excess part of the rails in order to bring the proper connection between the rail and the extracted part.
* Create the spline for bringing the curved surface as reference.

* Create the multi-section surface using these splines as guide curves.

* Join those surfaces.

* Use Symmetry to create the mirror image and join those surfaces.

* Thicken the surface.

* Repeat the same method for creating the another Bow-Roof and the Centre-roof rails.

For Centre Roof Rail:

* Roof Assembly:

Calculation:
i) Heat distortion Formula:

ii) Snow Load Formula:

Result:
Hence, from the above calculations, the Roof which is designed satisfies these conditions.
