Challenge

Week 4

AIM:

To extract the mid surface of the bottle cap and generate the proper mesh flow in the mid surface using ANSA software.

SOFTWARE REQUIRED:

ANSA software

PROCEDURE:

* Open ANSA software and download the given model. ( the model here is bottle cap)

* After importing the model, check for GEOMETRY and FIX the errors by giving the FIX option.

* Remove the TRIPLE CONS as well as SINGLE CONS.

* Save the model after this process is done.

EXTRACTING THE MID SURFACE:

* After the geometry checkup and topo is done, its time to extract the mid surface of the given model.

* Use FACES>>MIDDLE option to extract mid in the rib section, smaller surfaces, and inner bottom teeth surfaces.

* Use OFFSET in some other areas like in top surface, side walls surface by giving MEASURE option and applying the half of the measured values, and apply OK.

* Create NEW surface for joining the mid surfaces with each other.

* In order to attach with some surfaces, give EXTEND and select the cons and then select the faces, and so the objects will be attached to the surface. for example, the ribs.

* For extracting the threads, select CURVE option and select the MIDDLE CURVE. Select the cons of the top of the threads and so the middle curve will be generated.

* And then, select the edges of the curves from beginning to end and click OK to generate middle curve.

* By clicking the FACES OFF and CURVES ON, go to FACES>NEW and create the surface with respect to curves and so the threads will be created. then switch ON the FACES and then extend the threads to get attached with the surface and so the TRIPLE CONS wil be appeared.

* Repeat the same in the threads in the upper face.

* In teeth section, measure the width of the teeth and select the OFFSET option to extract the mid surface of the teeth as shell. Then, extend the teeth to the surface to be attached

* In upper surface, select CURVE MIDDLE option to create the MID SURFACE.

MESHING PROCEDURE:

* Set the quality criteria and set the limits

* Select the areas which are to be meshed.

* Mesh the area one by one by giving the FREE MESH/BEST MESH in the given area and thus the mesh flow will be occur properly.

* Reduce the quality failure issues as much it is possible by using RECONSTRUCT/RESHAPE and also try to reduce TRIAS.

* Reduce the construction lines which are in the same surface

* In some areas, the quality criteria may fail that is to be compromised due to the presence of ribs, triple cons and so on.

* In order to make the shell of the teeth as solid, go to MESH PARAMETERS and enable DRAW SHELL AS SOLID and APPLY.

* Once the mesh flow is irregular, we can adjust the grids by MOVE GRIDS, or SPLITTING/SWAPPING the grids and SMOOTH those.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

From this challenge model, I learnt to EXTEND the things to be attached to the face, taking mid by using FACES>MIDDLE, Creating a surface using CURVES option. And also I learnt that since it is a plastic model, we have to compromise about the OFF elements due to the quality failure which is minor. And Aslo I learnt that Mesh flow should be more important than OFF elements.

CONCLUSION:

Thus, the given challenge model has been extracted with a mid surface and brought with a proper mesh flow using ANSA software.
