Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

AIM :

To design and assemble various parts of a Sunseeker Predator Yacht and obtain photo-realistic renders using SOLIDWORKS.

INTRODUCTION :

YACHT

A yacht is a larger, recreational boat or ship.

The word “Yacht” comes from Dutch origin and was originally defined as a light, and fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy to find and capture pirates. A boat, on the other hand, is smaller in size and can be anything from a fisherman's boat to a sailboat

It is more of a power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing.

There is no standard definition, so the term applies to such vessels that have a cabin with amenities that accommodate overnight use.

To be termed a yacht, as opposed to a boat, such a pleasure vessel is likely to be at least 33 feet (10 m) in length and may have been judged to have good aesthetic qualities.

DESIGN OF YACHT :

Yacht Design is all about creating a dynamic, artful watercraft with nothing more than your imagination, technical skills, and a computer. The design, shape and materials defined by the designer and used in the construction of a boat can make it more energy efficient, cost effective and aesthetically pleasing.

Theere are various components associated in the design of the Sunseeker Predator Yacht which includes,

  • Propeller
  • Hull
  • Superstructure
  • Radar and Radarmast
  • Front seat
  • Middle seat
  • Rear seat
  • Garage door

PROPELLER :

The purpose of the propeller is to provide a method of propulsion so the yacht is able to move forward through the water.

It is a rotating hub which consists of radial blades.

When it rotates it corresponds to an action similar to Archimede's screw.

It transforms rotation power into linear thrust upon a working fluid.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Extrude cut
  • Lofted boss/base
  • Fillet
  • Pattern

HULL :

Hull is the part of a yacht or boat that floats in the water.

A hull has framework inside it and a hard outer shell.

The Hull is the most notable structural entity of Yacht of Ship.

To define the hull, it can be said that it is the watertight enclosure of the ship, which protects the cargo, machinery, and accommodation spaces of the ship from the weather, flooding, and structural damage.

The Hull was vastly designed through surface modelling.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • 3D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Projected curve
  • Extrude surface
  • Lofted surface
  • Extedn surface
  • Knit surface
  • Extrude cut
  • Shell
  • Trim surface
  • Swept boss/base
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Helix/Spiral curve
  • Dome
  • Pattern
  • Split
  • Mirror
  • Fill surface

SUPERSTRUCTURE :

On water craft, the superstructure consists of the parts of the ship or a boat, including sailboats, fishing boats, passenger ships, and submarines, that project above her main deck.

The Superstructure does not usually include its masts or any armament turrets.

The entire control of the yacht is enlocsed inside the superstructure.

It also comprises of all the other cabins and rooms.

Like the Hull this superstructure also involves surface modelling.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • 3D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Projected curve
  • Extrude surface
  • Lofted surface
  • Extend surface
  • Knit surface
  • Ruled surface
  • Extrude cut
  • Shell
  • Trim surface
  • Swept boss/base
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Fillet
  • Delete face
  • Fill surface
  • Chamfer
  • Dome
  • Pattern
  • Split
  • Mirror

RADAR & RADARMAST :

RADAR stands for Radio Detection and Ranging.

RADAR's are used on marines and ships inorder to detect any present obstacles and other ships nearby.

It plays a major role in avoiding collisions and ensures a safe navigation at the sea.

It is alos very helpful at really worse wheather conditions when the Captain has to completely rely on the RADAR as there will be zero visibility.

Here RADAR is a rotating stick which is used to sweep the incoming microwave signals.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Extrude cut
  • Pattern
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Split

Radarmast contains the system which provides the output signals.

These output signals were cast out with the help of the antennas present.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Swept boss/base
  • Shell
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Projected curve
  • Mirror

SEATS :

Seats are the accessories present in the yacht for its passengers to sit and rest during the journey.

This yacht consists of three different seats which were designed using the deck surface reference.

FRONT SEAT : It is present at the front most part of the Yacht , just after the end of the superstructure.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Extrude cut
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Extrude surface
  • Swept surface
  • Knit surfcae
  • Surfcae fill
  • Lofted surfcae
  • Dome
  • Mirror

MIDDLE SEAT : It is present above the garage of the yacht. It also comprises of a table at the center.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Extrude cut
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Mirror

REAR SEAT : It is present in front of the middle seat at the end of the deck surface.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • 3D sketch
  • Extrude boss/base
  • Extrude surface
  • Sweep surfcae
  • Lofted surface
  • Revolve surface
  • Revolve boss/base
  • Extend surface
  • Trim surface
  • Ruled surface
  • Knit surface
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Mirror

GARAGE DOOR :

This is the door for the Garage.

This structure was designed based on the cut out portion from the Hull.

The Garage is used to store any vehicles onto the yacht.

The various commands used for designing were,

  • 2D sketch
  • Extrude cut
  • Shell
  • Fillet
  • Mirror

ASSEMBLY :

Alll the individual parts were inserted in to the assembly in a sequential manner.

Proper mating conditions were given to each of the parts in the assembly by considering the Chassis as the reference.

Thus all the parts move only with respect to the chassis and they stay intact.

The different views of the Sunseeker Predator Yacht were listed below,

RENDERED IMAGES OF SUNSEEKER PREDATOR YACHT :

CONCLUSION :

  • All the individual parts of the Predator Yacht were designed precisely.
  • The Assembly of the Yacht was made successfully using all the designed components.
  • The photo-realistic rendered images of the assembly were simulated.
