Project on Concrete Mix Design for various grades of Concrete

*1. Calculate the Concrete Mix Design for M35 grade concrete with fly ash

mix design is used to increase the workability of concrete .instead of nominal mix , mix design perform very accurate and increase strength and durable to concret.. and with fly ash also increase workability and improve the flow of concrete...,

  1. aim:Calculate the Concrete Mix Design for M35 grade concrete with fly ash

procedure;

grade designation : M35

cement : grade (43)

maximum size of aggregte =20mm.. as per is 10262:2009

exposure condition: extreme .

mini cement =360kg/m^3

workability need = 100mm

methods of concrete placing=pumpable

chem adm=superplastisizer

min adm=fly ash

s-g of fly ash=2.2

s-g of superplastisizer=1.14

# findout the target mean strength

f'ck=fck+1.65(5)

=35+1.65(5)

= 43.25kn/mm^2

where,fck is a compressive strength in

28 days is n/mm^2

s is a standard deviation as per is 10262:2009

#calculate the water cement ratio

as per IS 456:2000 the water cement ratio is 0.40

its depend on the exposure condition

based on experience the w/c is 0.35<0.40 hence ok..

w/c=0.35

#cal water content

as per IS 10262:2009 the max size of aggregate for 20mm=186L

for slump (25-50mm)=186L

for 100 mm slump , for adding each 25mm to add 3% of water cont

water content=186+(0.06*186)

=197L

for adding superplastisizer the 20% of water should be reduced

By the trial method the water is reduced by 29%

=197*0.71

water =140L

# the cement content

w/c=0.35

c=140/0.35

c=400kg/m^3

400>360kg/m^3

hence ok.

#the cement material with fly ash

fly ash is used therefore the cement is increased by 10 %

=400*1.1

=440kg/m^3

fly ash @ 30% with cementious material

440*0.3=132kg/m^3(fly ash)

cement content=440-132

cement content =308kg/m^3

cement saved by adding fly ash =400-308

= 92kg/m^3

fly ash utilized=132kg/m^3

#volume of aggregate

as per is 10262:2009 20mm aggregate and fine for water cement ratio is

0.5=0.62 (zone-2)

but we have 0.35=0.62

for every 0.5 we should add 0.01 to zone value 0.62is (0.63)

here 0.35=0.65

for pumpable concrete 10% of coarse aggregate reduced

because , perhaps the angular aggregate is present
