Project on Concrete Mix Design for various grades of Concrete
1a. Aim of the project: To find out the concrete mix design for the M35 grade concrete when cement is partially replaced with the fly ash and also to find the concrete mix design for the M50 grade concrete with out any replacement.
- Concrete is a versatile material which is formed by mixing of cement, sand,Coarse aggregate ,water and admixtures(optional) in various proportions to form a homogeneous which acquires good strength.
- The proportion of the ingredients of the concrete is found either by nominal mix or by design mix.
- The nominal mix is evaluated based on the experience and it is most commonly used for the concrete grades M7.5,M10,M15,M20,M25. Beyond these grades the proportions of the ingredients of the concrete are evaluated by using design mix.
- The design mix is attained for the large construction works where strength is the important primary requirement.
- The process of design mix is carried based on various parameters and it follows the guide lines from the codes IS 456:2000 and IS 10262:2009.
- The design mix is very accurate and there is no provision for the deviations in the proportions of ingredients of the concrete during the execution work.
Mix design of M35 grade concrete.

Concrete mix design for M35 grade concrete with replacement of cement with fly ash is shown in detail in the above pictures
- For the mix design process we need to take various assumptions into the account like specific gravity,TYpe of the exposure condition,Zone of the fine aggregate amd they may change according to the site condition.
- In this case the admixuture or super plasticizer is also not considered, but if we consider the addition of admixture then the workability may increase also the water may reduce
- The quantities of the ingredients of the concrete are
cement 435.6kg
Flyash 108.9kg
Fine aggregate 640kg
Coarse aggregate 1025.3kg
Water 198 lit
C:Flyash: F.a: C.a =1:0.25:1.46:2.35
- The above ingredients are mixed properly to get the required aatrength of the concrete and there is no provision for the deviation in the proportion or specification of the materials.
Design mix of M50 grade concrete

Concrete mix design for M50 grade concrete with out any replacement of cement is shown in detail from the above pictures.
- The quantities of the ingredients of the concrete are
cement 523kg
Fine aggregate 573kg
Coarse aggregate 892kg
Water 209 lit
C: F.a: C.a =1:1.09:1.7
- The above ingredients are mixed properly to get the required aatrength of the concrete and there is no provision for the deviation in the proportion or specification of the materials.
- In this there is no replacement of cement with any other material, By the experience it is economical to replace the cement with any other material. It may reduce the shrinkage cracks too.
