Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

AIM: Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit.

OBJECTIVE:The figure for the Automotive Wiring Circiut is given below.

1.Identify each of the major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram.

ANS:The major elements are,

  1. Battery
  2. Generator
  3. Distributor
  4. Ammeter
  5. Fuse
  6. Ground/Earth
  7. Indicating Light/Beam light
  8. Starter
  9. Breaker
  10. Horn
  11. Light Switch/Selector Switch
  12. Junction Block

2.Explain the purpose and working of any three elements briefly.

ANS:THe Three Elements Are,

  1. Generator
  2. Ammeter
  3. Battery

1.Generator:a generator is a device that converts motive power into electrical power for use in an electrical circuit.

Working;Generators dont actualy create electricity instead they convert mechanical or chemical energy into electrical energy.they do it by capturing power of motion and turning it into electrical energy by forcing electrons from the external throgh an electrical circuit

2.Ammeter :instrument for mesuring either direct or alternating current ,in amperes.here in the circuit the ammeter is used to measure wide range of current values because at high value only small portion of the current is directed through the meter mechanism.

3.Battery:An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with extrenal connections for powering electrical devices.

working; When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free electrons difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy.

3.If the total load is 10A from battery, what should be the fuse rating?

ANS:The fuse will blow ,Fuses are used to protect wiring. the wires for 5Amps circuit cannot handle 10 amps.therfore the 5 amp fuse will do its job by creating an open circuit and stopping the flow of electricity.

If the load is 10A the recommended fuse is 15A .10A is usually not a safe minimum, the potential impulses or even small fluctuations as a fuse is designed to not exceed the restriction on the current,to prevent damage of circuit.

the fuse rating mainly depends on its frequency necessary to icluded other factors, including ambient temperature, available energy during fault, inrush current.

4.Identify any two elements which are connected parallel to each other. Why they are connected in parallel?

TAil stop and Dome light are connected in parallel in parallel the positive side is connected to positive side and negative side is connected to all the negative side it increases the run time while maintaining the voltage where voltage remains the same.

5.Identify any two elements which are connected in series. Why they are connected in series?

Fuse and Ammeter are connected in series,Fuse is a electrical protection device built around a conductive strip that is designed to melt in case of excessive current flow.fuse are always connected in series with the circuit to be protected from excessive current. when the fuse blow it will open the entire circuit and interrupt or stop the flow of current through the circuit.

An Ammetrer is a device which measures the amount of current flowing in a circuit.it is very low resistance device.if it is connected in parallel it would draw most of the current and get damaged hence it is connected in series.
