Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack

NOTE: LIVE SESSION BATCH 16 BY Alwin sir

AIM: For a 10 cell series lithium-ion battery model, simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at
various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB.

Model:

Charge Discharge profile block parameter:

Cell 01 to 04 Subsystem:

Thermal model in subsystem:

Lithium cell 1RC Subsystem:

Cell 01 to 04 mask Block

Parameter setting for Cell 01 to 04

Parameter for cell 5 Fault:

Block parameter for cell 6 to 10

Block parameter For Cyclic charge discharge profile:

Gain block parameter:

block parameter for Ambient block

RESULTS:

Now we conduct different tests for above model by changing the temperature value in Ambient block and see the result of SOC and cell temperature in the Scope

Test1):

keep temperature 293 K

We can see the SOC plot in the below figure
Its Behavior is continuous charging and discharging

Now temperature curve shown below

initially all the cells operate at the same temp .and sudden increase
in temp is happening in faulty cell 5. So pack of cells 6 to 10 also increase slightly due to extra cell in that pack of cell

Test 2): Change temperature to 310K

SOC curve at 310K:

Temperature curve at 310K:

Test 3): Change temperature from 310K to 325 K

SOC curve at 325 K:

Temperature curve at 325 K:

COMPARISON OF TEST RESULT:

  • We perform 3 different test, and in all test it has been observed that temp of faulty cell increases abruptly.
  • At initially temperature is 293K then normal cell temp is nearly 310K but faulty cell i.e 5th cell rises to 310K. and when tempetarure is 310K then temp of normal cell is upto 326K but faulty cell temp is 240K and when temperature is 324K then temp of normal cell is upto 340K but faulty cell temp is 255K
