Challenge

Project 2

Aim:

  • The max heat generation of the battery
  • The find the SOC of the battery at 2 *104second of the battery operation
  • To design the simulink model for given problem statement.

Battery Parameters:

Nominal Voltage= 3.7 V

Rated Capacity= 3.5 Ah

Given,

Battery Resistance= 0.5 mOhm

Entropic factor= 2

Max current= -0.896

Time = 120 Sec

Joules heat = I^2 *R*t

                 =  (-0.896)^2 *0.005* 120

                 = 0.48 J

Max. heat generated = joule heat + entropic heat

                                   = 0.48+2

                                  = 2.48 J

Simulink Model:

  • The above is the simulink model design to observe the battery SOC, current and voltage for the data given in the excel sheet.
  • The data is given to the controlled current source using signal builder block.

Result:

  • The battery SOC drops from 100% to 98.5% for run time of 208 seconds.
  • The battery current varies to load accordingly.
  • The voltage drops exponentially from approximately 4.3 V to 4.1 V.

Conclusion:

  • The maximum heat generated in the battery is calculated and is observed as 2.48 J.
  • The model for the same is simulated ad results are obtained.
