Project 2
Solution:
a) The max heat generation of the battery
Battery Resistance = 0.5 milli Ohm
delat time = 0.1 sec
entropic factor = 2
Entropic heat = 2 * Joules heat
Heat generated = Joules heat + Entropic heat = Joule heat + 2*Joule Heat
Joules heat = I2*R*t
Max Joules heat = Imax2*R*t
Imax = -0.896 A
R = 0.5 milli Ohm
t = 1.7sec
Max Joules heat = (-0.896)2*0.5*10-3*1.7 = 0.00068J
Max Heat generated = 2*Max Joule Heat
= 2*0.00068
Max Heat generated = 0.0014J
b) SOC calculation of the battery
Simulink Model:

Blocks used:
Li ion battery
Bus Selector
Powergui block
Controlled current source
Series RLC branch
Scope block
Display block
- Connections are made as shown in the above diagram
- The given drive cycle is imported to the signal generator block
- The initial SOC of the battery is set to 0%, resistance of series RLC branch is set to 0.5mOhm
- The simulation is run for 208sec and result (SOC, Current, Voltage) is obtained on the scope
Result Screenshot:
The simulation is run for 208sec, initial SOC of battery = 0%

Conculsion:
The simulation is run for 208sec. The SOC of the battery has increased from 0% to 1.007%
